A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Associate Attorney with 2+ years of experience. The ideal candidate must have strong litigation, verbal, and writing skills and be in good standing with the California Bar Association. The candidate will handle all aspects of defending workers' compensation claims for benefits, including medical, disability, impairment, increased benefits under LC 132a, coverage, and employment defenses for clients, including insurance companies, third-party administrators, and employer representatives. They will manage all aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, trials, arbitrations, liens, and settlement negotiations and documents. Case evaluation and preparation, legal research, analysis, and administrative duties are also part of the responsibilities.
Duties:
Handle all aspects of defending workers' compensation claims, including medical, disability, and coverage defenses.
Manage litigation tasks, including discovery, depositions, trials, arbitrations, liens, and settlement negotiations.
Evaluate and prepare cases for litigation.
Prepare for and attend hearings and depositions.
Report on hearings, depositions, and appearances.
Correspond with clients and other parties involved in the claims process.
File pleadings in response to applicants' claims filed.
Prepare correspondence to clients regarding the status and updates of active claims.
Perform legal research and analyze cases.
Develop and recommend case strategy.
Develop a plan of action and write briefs and pleadings.
Negotiate settlements.
Perform administrative duties related to the practice of law.
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in workers' compensation defense.
Strong litigation, verbal, and writing skills.
Good standing with the California Bar Association.
Knowledge of workers' compensation law.
Ability to spot legal issues in other areas.
Effective time management and good judgment.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Technologically adept.
Education:
JD from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
Admission to the State Bar of California.
