Senior Software Engineer - Azure Software Defined Networking

We are part of the Azure Networking team designing, building, and operating critical services for customers. We are responsible for hybrid connectivity to enable enterprises to connect to Azure, application load balancing, secure VM access, network function virtualization, and application & network security services. At the core of these services is a solid SDN and NFV infrastructure that we continuously innovate on to improve agility, scalability, reliability, and cost effectiveness of our services.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer in ExpressRoute, a service responsible to provide dedicated, ultra low latency and very high throughput Hybrid connectivity between customers on-premise and Azure and to design, build and operate services and solutions that aid diagnosability across the whole Azure Networking landscape. We own entire services end-to-end from user facing interface to management plane and all the way down to data path implementation. The developer will participate in architecture, design of various components, and ensure a timely execution of the features with high quality. The developer will own the component end-to-end, including testing, managing cross team dependencies as well as monitoring and alerting for the deployed component. The position will involve extensive internal and external collaborations with other Azure/Microsoft teams as well as networking vendors.

Responsibilities

Participate in software development life cycle – design, develop and test

Participate in scalable operations – deploy, monitor, support during incidents

Cross team collaboration

Responsible for design, development, testing, deployment and livesite support for the service.

Identify and improve the overall service availability, reliability, security, diagnosability, monitoring and alerting.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

4+ years of software development experience in a networking and/or distributed systems environment

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas:

C#, Golang, C++

Networking (TCP/IP, UDP, TLS/SSL, HTTP/HTTPS)

Distributed Systems

Linux/Unix/Windows systems programming, performance optimization

Virtualization (hypervisors; VM switching, containers)

Designing and running large-scale fault-tolerant infrastructure services

RESTful Services

Large scale telemetry gathering and analysis

Network packet capture analysis and debugging

Design & Programming skills

Experience with Container platforms and technologies (Dockers, Kubernetes)

Experience with Networking technologies (SDN, NFV, BGP, Routing) & L4-L7 proxies (Nginx, Envoy, HAProxy)

Experience with Security technologies (IPsec, WAF, Firewall)

Contributions to open source software projects

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
