Job Description

Maintenance Technician

This Maintenance Technician role focuses on supporting industrial manufacturing equipment, particularly extruder and feeder machines, by performing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repairs. The technician ensures equipment reliability and uptime by troubleshooting issues, reading and interpreting electrical schematics, and safely working with high-voltage systems, including 480V and three-phase motors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment, with a focus on extruder and feeder machines.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues involving 480V systems, 3-phase motors, and 220V circuits.
  • Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics to troubleshoot equipment control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to maintain optimal machine performance.
  • Use mechanical, electrical, and PLC troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Perform maintenance repairs on industrial machinery to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
  • Inspect equipment regularly, identify potential issues, and take corrective action before failures occur.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance and production team members to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices when working with high-voltage electrical systems and industrial machinery.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Proficiency in electrical maintenance, including working with 480V systems, 3-phase motors, and 220V circuits.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics for equipment controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude for maintaining and repairing industrial machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and control-related issues.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial setting.
  • Basic knowledge of extruders or similar production equipment.
  • Industrial maintenance degree preferred.
  • 13 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Industrial maintenance degree or equivalent technical education is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with extruder and feeder machines is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes nights and weekends as required by the shift pattern.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing plant that produces plastic pellets used in injection molding. The facility is not temperature controlled, so the environment can become hot or cold depending on the season. The maintenance team enjoys a stable, supportive culture, with very low turnover and long-tenured employees; the newest maintenance team member has been with the company for six years, and this position is open due to an internal transfer rather than attrition. The shift schedule runs from 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM on a rotating pattern of 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off, providing extended periods of time off while maintaining full-time hours.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $70720.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
