As an Engineering Manager, Platform in PitchBook’s engineering division, you will be leading a group of highly motivated engineers in charge of empowering their peers, by creating tools and services that optimize all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). You will be essential in helping to build exceptional solutions relied upon and used by more than a hundred PitchBook software development engineers every day. Your target will be to drive value for our developers by removing bottlenecks and building tools that optimize the speed, quantity, and quality of all processes and systems participating in the SDLC.
With your strong analytical skills, you will break down abstract and complex problems into smaller problems. You will teach your team strong decision-making skills, iterative development processes, how to collaborate across teams, and how to become learning oriented. A crucial part of this role is career growth and development of our SDEs. You will be expected to devise solutions based on limited information and precedent to find creative ways to tackle challenges. It is essential that you be able to interpret, assess, and resolve a wide range of issues and be able to select the right course of action.
Your ability to collaborate with software development managers, provide leadership across multiple locations, set a high bar for our team members, and hire, train, and retain exceptional talent in the organization, will be critical to your success. You will solicit feedback, engage others with empathy, build leaders on your teams, and help create a culture of belonging, teamwork, and purpose.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Lead the platform team direction and execution (operations, processes, practices, and standards) and code quality across the organization, working closely with engineering leadership and product management to craft roadmaps and achieve success criteria
Bridges the gap between business/product needs and execution, including building and delivering on group-level objectives and key results, identifying resource needs, and building execution plans for initiatives
Ensures platform roadmap items are delivered on time and with exceptional quality
Serve as a force multiplier for development teams by removing roadblocks, implementing process improvements, providing frequent and actionable feedback to team members, and building practices for ideation and innovation
Learn constantly and be passionate about discovering new tools, technologies, libraries, and frameworks (commercial and opensource), that can be leveraged within your team's domain
Describe technical context in intuitive ways for different audiences, adapt communication from highly technical deep dives with engineers to non-technical dialogue with executive stakeholders
Establishes and drives a culture founded on creating belonging, psychological safety, candor, connection, cooperation, and fun
Understands how to apply agile, lean, and principles of fast flow to team efficiency and productivity
Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
Skills and Qualifications:
Master of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field
7+ years in Software Development or Engineering roles
3+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct management responsibilities of at least five people
3+ years of hands-on coding and delivering large-scale systems as a Software Developer
Highly experienced in leading a software development team in an Agile environment
Experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker
Understanding of how to build for cloud-scale delivery, including scalability, resiliency, and recoverability
Has successfully delivered on large technical initiatives from scoping to launch, with a strong metrics focus
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily

Compensation
Annual base salary: $220,000-$250,000
Target annual bonus percentage: 15%
*Starting pay will be based on several factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be different ranges for candidates by location.
Working Conditions:
The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
