What you'll do:
The Electronic Technician troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs electronic systems to include analog and digital components and systems. Fabricates electronic systems tailored to specific research applications. Performs calibrations of measurement systems and equipment. Participates in and supports Continuous Improvement and safety programs. Applies knowledge of A.C. and D.C. circuits (analog and digital) in the fabrication, modification, and repair of electronic/electro-mechanical equipment.
Troubleshoots and repairs PID control systems to subassembly level.
Fabricates instrumentation and equipment using accepted techniques of metal working, wiring, soldering, desoldering and assembly.
Performs preventive maintenance and calibrations and completes appropriate documents.
Maintains calibration certificates for all calibration standards. Keeps an updated chart of all calibration standards showing calibration date, calibration due date, etc.
Effectively works within the confines of the documentation system of being especially aware of priority, verbal and written instructions, completion date, overtime authorization and safety requirements.
Provides sufficient information, relative to work performed, to ensure that documentation is current.
Provides back-up capability to electro-mechanical technicians; handles emergency trouble-calls and is available for pager duty.
Responsible for complying with departmental ISO procedures.
Performs other assigned tasks as needed.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
What it takes to be successful in this role: Educational Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent education. Requires 2 years of technical school courses in electronics or related field.
No prior experience necessary.
Special Requirements/Skills: Must be able to read and modify schematics.
Automotive background desired.
Must provide own set of basic tools used in electronics.
Required to be on call.
May be required to work unscheduled overtime.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Periodic exposure to heat and fumes. Occasionally will work in limited crawl space or close quarters. Requires use of ear plugs, safety shoes and glasses.
