Scholars Unlimited is a non-profit organization that provides high-quality, comprehensive after school and summer learning programs to elementary school children in metro Denver. Our organizational vision is an unwavering commitment to empower students to achieve academic and personal success. Our mission is to foster academic, social, and emotional growth for children living in low-income communities around metro Denver. We collaborate with school districts and generally provide our programs in the schools our students attend. Currently, our programs are offered in Denver, Aurora, Sheridan, and Westminster public schools.

THE POSITION FUNCTION
In partnership with the President and Board of Directors, the Director of Finance will be a strategic thought- partner and report to the President of the organization. The successful candidate will be a hands on and participative manager and will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: finance, business planning, and budgeting.
The Director of Finance will play a critical role in partnering with the leadership team/President’s Cabinet in strategic decision making and operations as Scholars Unlimited continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. This is a tremendous opportunity for a finance and operations leader to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected high-impact organization.
Responsibilities
Financial Management
Maintain federal and state compliance and appropriate filings
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting material for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the President; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes, and keep Scholars Unlimited’s leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
Manage organization cash flow and forecasting.
Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that the financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the board of directors.
Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third party vendors and consultants.
Directly supervise Accountant and Payroll position
File federal and state tax returns and organization’s 990
Make financial presentations at bi-monthly board meetings.
Other responsibitlies as assigned by President and CEO
5-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally six-plus years of broad financial and operations management experience, with a CPA preferred.
Non Profit experience strongly preferred
The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external shareholders
Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software’s installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software, specifically Sage MIP.
A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytical, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
Ability to translate financial concepts to-and effectively collaborate with-programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have financial backgrounds
A track record in grants management, especially federal grants
A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast paced environment

Education
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in a related field, ideally finance, accounting, or business management. Extra consideration given to Certified Public Accountants (CPAs)

Scholars Unlimited offers a competitive financial package with a generous PTO policy, including paid holiday time off between December 25th and January 1st. Two mental health and wellness days are awarded per year as well. Employees can choose between three comprehensive health plans, along with dental and vision coverage. The organization offers an allowance per month to cover plan premiums. Short term and Long term disability are covered 100 percent by the organization as well as Life Insurance. This is a HYBRID position. Employee is expected to be in the office 2-3 days a week, subject to arrangements made with the President.
