About Moment

Moment builds modern capital markets infrastructure for the wealth management space, starting with fixed income. Founded in 2022 by former fixed income quants at leading prop shops, Moment has quickly established itself as the leading fixed income infrastructure provider for global fintechs, traditional brokerages, and RIAs.

Fixed income is the largest asset class in the world, and the market is evolving rapidly. In the past three years, electronic fixed income trading volume has nearly doubled — and in the past 14 months, retail fixed income trading volume has increased by more than 1500%. Despite this rapid growth, the wealth management space has been confined to legacy technology that doesn’t meet their needs anymore. That’s where Moment comes in — in just a matter of weeks, Moment allows customers to easily offer an end-to-end, modern fixed income solution through a simple set of APIs across data, execution, and portfolio management.

Most startups start off serving small businesses, and scale up as they convince larger enterprises to take a bet. Moment’s version of “small businesses” have been firms representing millions of retail investors — and we’re just getting started. We're growing incredibly fast and are backed by world-class investors. In May 2023, we raised a $17M Series A led by a16z with participation from amazing investors including Venrock, Neo, Contrary, and Henry Kravis.

The Role

We are on the lookout for a talented DevOps and Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll work side by side with some of the most accomplished minds in the tech industry to craft and maintain the infrastructure that powers our next-generation systems. Our team thrives on a strong engineering culture and is dedicated to delivering stellar and functional experiences to our customers.

The right candidate will have substantial experience working in a fast-paced, engineering-centric organization. Our current tech stack comprises Go, Postgres, Kafka, and AWS, but a significant part of this role will also involve the implementation, automation, and maintenance of these systems within a DevOps context.

One of the key challenges you'll tackle is designing and maintaining systems capable of sending and receiving 500M+ messages per day. The reliability and scalability of our systems are paramount for Moment and will be a significant factor in how we architect and develop our products. We're looking for an engineer who's not only ready to take ownership of significant features but is also prepared to spearhead our scaling efforts. This role is crucial for us to fulfill our promise to deliver features to billions of investors worldwide.

While previous experience in fintech isn't necessary, we do value a passion for transforming how retail investors interact with capital markets. Though interest in finance is welcomed, we are committed to equipping you with the necessary finance domain knowledge during your onboarding process. Together, we will redefine and bring innovation to the finance industry.

Responsibilities

In the short term, your responsibilities will include:

Streamlining DevOps processes and minimizing failures

Automating the management of our AWS infrastructure

Overseeing the establishment of access controls and permissions

Guaranteeing SOC compliance

Enhancing our system monitoring and observability

As for the long-term goals, you will be entrusted with:

Creating infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and facilitating autonomous software deployment

Taking ownership of SOC2 compliance and streamlining our security stance

Ensuring that Terraform manages all production systems

Augmenting our alert and monitoring systems, closely coordinating with our product development units

Managing container orchestration systems

Spearheading and enforcing the best practices for Moment's cloud infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years experience in DevOps

Experience building 0-1 services in a large-scale production setting

Proficiency in automating service deployments in the cloud, ideally in AWS

Proficiency in container orchestration using Docker or Kubernetes

Proficiency in monitoring and alerting systems like Datadog

Proficiency in Terraform

An orientation towards impact — on your own projects, throughout Moment, and across the world

A high standard, for yourself and others, when working with production systems

Open communication skills — ask questions, assume good intentions, and default to transparency

Rigor and empathy that help you thrive in a collaborative and high-performance environment

Compensation & Benefits

With our flexible compensation model, employees have the ability to design their compensation according to their needs. People join startups for different reasons and we want to be accommodating and flexible. Every candidate approved for an offer receives two options:

✉️ The first offer is a lower salary with a higher equity package ✉️ The second is a higher salary with a lower equity package.

Candidates can choose either option - or anywhere in between the two on a sliding scale.

For this role, the salary range is $150,000-$200,000. Actual compensation will vary based on skills, experience, and which offer each candidate selects.

In addition to a competitive salary and equity package, we provide every employee with:
