IT Technician

Position Summary:
The Lead IT Technician is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to-day technical operations and support within the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas. This position involves direct interaction with networking systems, computer hardware and software, and other technological infrastructures. The Lead IT Technician will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all IT-related equipment and ensure the smooth operation of the Tribe's IT systems with minimal downtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide first-line response for users requiring assistance with IT issues and problems.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues. Perform routine maintenance and upgrades of IT systems, including servers, workstations, networking equipment, and software applications.
Manage setup, configuration, and support for internal and/or remote users.
Assist in the deployment of new technology and systems, including installations and migrations.
Maintain an inventory of all IT assets, including hardware, software, and licensing information.
Ensure the security of IT systems by managing firewalls, antivirus solutions, and other security measures.
Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues.
Document all technical procedures and user guides for internal use.
Assist in disaster recovery planning and data backup processes.
Provide technical support for virtual meetings and telecommunication systems.
Stay informed on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in a technical support role, with a focus on networking, hardware, and software troubleshooting.
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified-Windows Server Fundamentals, Cisco Certified Network Associate, Microsoft Certified-Azure Fundamentals, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified, VMware Certified Professional, and ITIL Foundation are highly desirable.
Strong understanding of Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and network configuration.
Experience with virtualization technologies, cloud services, and managing email systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff.
Willingness to travel occasionally for training, conferences, and to support remote sites.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: This position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting during the workday.
Occasional lifting of IT equipment, which may exceed 50 pounds.
The role may require availability for on-call support outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends.
The Lead IT Technician is a key technical resource for the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, ensuring reliable and efficient IT operations. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with tribal operations, providing critical support that enhances the functionality and security of the Tribe's IT infrastructure.
Privacy Act:
The Lead IT Technician must comply with all requirements and provisions of Subpart D. of 43 CFR, Part 2, which implements the Privacy Act (5 USC 552a) (i)(l).

As a condition of employment, applicants must consent to pre-employment drug testing prior to appointment, and abide by the Drug-Free Workplace Policy while employed by the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.

Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472) and Kickapoo Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO).
