Position Description: PA – PROJECT ARCHITECT

Description:
We are seeking a skilled Project Architect to join our New Orleans Office. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing the entire scope of architectural projects dedicated to historic renovation, hospitality, multi-family and commercial projects, from initial programming through to final completion. This role demands a balance of technical proficiency, creativity, and leadership to ensure projects are completed to the highest standards of design and efficiency.
The PA is traditionally a licensed architect, or on path to becoming a licensed architect, who works directly with and reports to the Studio Lead. The position is demarcated by one who is technically capable of working independently and without direction on the complete scope of a project’s design and documentation from programming through final completion. PA is sometimes also the PM.
Duties:
Directly manage and oversee the design and documentation of projects, ensuring all aspects meet our firm’s standards and client expectations.
Organizes and directs the preparation of BIM models, drawings and other instruments of service
Understands, selects, applies, and configures appropriate building systems and/or finishes
Coordinates and reviews the work of our engineers/consultants (and owner’s consultants)
Interprets, applies, and documents the building and development codes for the project including: IBC/NFPA/UDC code reviews at SD-DD-CD, Fire-Rated assemblies, Comcheck, etc.
Submits and responds to review authority questions/comments during permitting
Prepares construction-ready Contract Document drawings and/or specifications
Prepares and organizes documentation during bidding: RFI responses, addendum, bid tab
Prepares and organizes documentation during construction: Field Report, Supplemental Instruction, Change Order, Punch List, Substantial/Final Completion, Closeout
Observes construction progress to ensure compliance with Contract Documents
Limits the firm’s exposure to liability while meeting the owner’s vision and budget
Participates in coordination with the owner at the direction of the Studio Lead
Characteristics of the Position:
> 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in architectural design
Preference will be given to candidates that can show an In-depth knowledge of historic renovation, hospitality, multi-family and commercial architecture, including a comprehensive understanding of construction building codes, regulations, and standards that impact the design and construction of such projects.
Usually, but not always a licensed Architect
Technically proficient in building systems, detailing, and documentation methods
Facile in building information and other modeling/drafting software (Revit, Sketchup, Autocad)
Methodical and detail-oriented
Can read and interpret technical information provided by others and communicate the same effectively in meetings, telephone calls, and email with consultants, engineers, product representatives, review authorities, contractors, and clients
Ability to coordinate with the work of outside engineers
Takes ownership and responsibility for the building design and technical performance or their portion thereof. Note that this “responsibility” shall not be interpreted as professional “liability,” for which the Architect of Record (typically the Principal in Charge) shall retain through the firm’s professional liability insurance.
