Your Role at BSI
The Architect is responsible for researching and planning building projects for clients and applying their expertise to designs. They work closely with all engineering disciplines and provide technical leadership for the team. Our group is made up of talented and hard-working individuals, and we are looking forward to adding another member to our team.
Responsibilities and Scope
Researches, plans, designs, and administers building projects for clients, applying knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning, building codes, building materials and systems
Develops and writes discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and estimates budget for proposals
Ensures quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
Prepares and presents design proposals to clients
Verifies discipline's design is accurate and coordinated within the 3D model and/or site scans
Delegates work and supervises designers on a project
Provides clear direction to team of project scope, schedule, budget and expectations of quality
Inspects sites and examines buildings to evaluate conditions
Oversees drawing packages and has the ability to sign off with Architectural license (if obtained)
Plans and programs layout of project(s); coordinates and integrates engineering elements into a unified design for client review and approval
Has a good working knowledge of applicable Building Codes
Considers other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle
Identifies and communicates scope change for discipline
Participates in interactive planning sessions to ensure scope, schedule, costs and quality are aligned to project objectives
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related industry
6+ years of experience
Architectural License obtained or willing to obtain
Preferred experience working in an industrial, pharmaceutical or GMP environment
Strong knowledge of general building systems functions and design
Strong knowledge construction materials, construction methods, building codes, life safety practices, and industry standards
Working knowledge of BIM modeling, Revit and AutoCAD; working knowledge in Presentation software (Photoshop, SketchUp); Proficiency in Word, Excel, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
Good decision-making skills and conflict resolution skills
Proficient at setting priorities and managing multiple tasks
Reporting Structure The new Architect will report to Matt Murtha, Director of Architecture. Holding a Master of Architecture degree from Miami University, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge to his team. Matt has been in the industry for over 25 years, and has been with BSI since 2017, where he helped implement BSI’s Architecture department. Matt is personable and develops each of his team members, providing mentorship and training opportunities along the way. He has built an incredible team of talented individuals and is excited to add another member of his team.
