CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I for this exciting new project will explore individual differences in first graders informal math knowledge and how we can build this knowledge to help children profit from formal instruction. The position provides an excellent platform for acquiring the skills necessary for eventual advanced level study. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Plan, coordinate, and conduct research within the guidelines set by the contracting agencies.

•Design, perform, and/or oversee data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.

•Assist with and/or lead the preparation of reports, graphs, and manuscripts for publication and conference presentations and other groups.

•Collect data in schools.

•Establish and maintain research partnerships with local elementary schools and/or districts.

•Plan and implement research staff schedules, including data collection, entry, and training.

•Communicate with school personnel about data collection and findings.

•Provide training to team members in data collection procedures.

•Prepare research materials and activities.

•Leads the interviews and decision making of staff hiring.

•Provide mentorship to undergraduate research assistants as needed, supporting any independent research initiatives.

•Code and analyze data.

•Leads IRB processes with districts and the University of Delaware.

•Work independently to meet time-sensitive deadlines.

•Perform miscellaneous job-related research activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor’s degree and two years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Degree in psychology, education, or related field preferred.

•Knowledge and understanding of experimental procedures and data collection.

•Ability to apply understanding of research methods and data collection protocols.

•Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

•Interest in children’s math learning and education.

•Experience working with children preferred.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
