REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
SUMMARY: The job of Network Specialist is to assist in supporting and resolving network operational issues, maintenance, update of all district servers and database systems. Support of server based applications, databases, email systems, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Minimum one (1) year direct experience in network support and administration.
• Experience supporting network equipment such as routers, switches, IP Telephony, and other data, voice, and video networks.
• Knowledge of PC's hardware and software basics
• Demonstrated competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing.
• Experience administering MS Active Directory Services, Windows 2003/2008 Server, and other server operating systems.
• Ability to interpret an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
• Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in on-call off hour network support rotation
2. Administrator Local Area Network operations
3. Assist in Wide Area Network operations as directed by senior network staff
4. Assists in administering systems and services related to district LAN an dewan (e.g. Email system printer print queue, workstation ID, IP assignments, computer labs, classroom computers, etc.) for the purpose of availability of service to authorized users
5. Assists in maintaining network operations, computer hardware, and/or software applications for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operations at District Office and school sites.

7. Support mission critical accounting, payroll, HR, foodservices, and transportation and demographic planning applications and their end users.
8. Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs server systems, hardware and computer peripherals.
9. Prepare and present training on new systems and cross training to other members of the IT department and other district staff as needed.
10. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems.
11. Assists with planning and implementation of future systems.
12. Assesses and recommends changes to systems for increased efficiently and/or uptime.
13. Assesses network hardware and/or software applications and/or malfunctions for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
14. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
15. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
16. May lead and direct the work of others.
17. Typically reports to a project leader or manager.
18. A wide degree of creatively and self-direction is expected.
19. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a frequent need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing equipment used in profession; and utilizing standard office equipment.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities; often gather, collate and/or classify data; and coordinate a significant number of factors in the use of equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing various processes, some of which may be undefined; and operate equipment using standard methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of different types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under standardized instructions and/or routines; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget and/or financial guidelines. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 30% walking and 40% standing. The job is performed generally in-doors, cool environment, under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
