Director of Business Development

SUMMARY
We are seeking an energetic, proactive, experienced person to help lead the Business Development function within our Business Development and Marketing Services team. The Director of Business Development will report to the CMO, work closely with the VP Business Development and help run the business development function, support attorneys and advisors with their business development needs, and manage team members in the execution of business development related projects, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
·Works closely with CMO, VP Business Development and Practice Group Leaders to gain in-depth understanding of legal and advisory services offered
·Develop a comprehensive understanding of the structure, operations and strategic direction of the relevant client relationships
·In partnership with other team members, track Firm competitors, their marketplace positioning, recruiting, initiatives and their performance and other key data and topical developments useful for planning at the product/practice group and service line levels
·Proactively develop and manage client-centric key messages/content to ensure that business development content is concise, consistent and aligns with the high level of quality we provide to our clients
·Takes lead on enhancing processes and/or content (where applicable) in the following areas:
o Pitch and proposal drafting and execution (e.g. timelines, delegation, drafting, collaborating with attorneys/advisors, finalizing and feedback)
o Content management – drafting and updating practice group content and representative matters
· Lead drafting and editing proposal templates, as well as maintaining the templates and disclosure requirements on Firm wide pitch book elements such as client names, profiles, experience lists and attorney biographies
· General oversight for a centralized proposal management database system and will oversee the compilation and analysis of metrics regarding pitch and proposal preparation and respective win rates for reporting to Firm Leadership
· Identify a proposal generator tool and develop, organize and manage content for proposal documents and related collateral within the identified solution
o Manage contribution process and maintain version control
·Train and develop team members on content creation to support various business development-related attorney requests
· Works with VP Business Development and CMO to execute Firm strategic initiatives
·Participate in research and analysis related to potential business development opportunities and strategic business planning, including routine and discrete market analyses of geographic markets or product/practice areas
· Generate new business development ideas for practice groups or internal service lines and working with the team members to implement them in order to increase revenues
· Contribute to the Firm’s Business Development Committee and support initiatives generated from the Committee, as required
· Providing judgment on business development technology investments in collaboration with CMO
·Conduct post-pitch debrief meetings feeding back key points to the business to facilitate further learning and development
·Work with attorney/advisor client service team leads to identify strategies for deepening relationships, delivering value and supporting the client’s legal and business needs and priorities
·Develop and lead Firm strategy for award submissions and draft and coordinate nominations

·You are proficient with Microsoft Office suite, proposal generators, experience databases and other marketing technology platforms
· You are a proactive self-starter and strategic thinker who can take ownership of their responsibilities and see them through with minimal oversight
· You are a dynamic leader with excellent team managerial skills, who is both a gracious delegator and a do-er, loving both to do the work yourself and effectively organize a team to execute
· You can prioritize and handle the pressure of a law firm environment, while maintaining attention to detail
· You work well in a team environment. The successful candidate will join an existing team of professionals that enjoys working together
· You are flexible and dedicated. This position’s work may require more than 40 hours per week and may also have irregular hours
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of 8 years of experience in client/business development or sales
· Bachelor's degree required. JD, preferred
· Extensive experience in business development communications in the professional services, with significant hands-on experience in proposal development and exemplary project management skills
