Principal Software Engineer

Ibotta is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our innovative team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding. The IPN (Ibotta Performance Network) Experiences Organization is looking for an individual to drive the transformation of our publisher, client, and internal operations experiences to be streamlined, engaging, and automated. The Principal Engineer role will report directly to the Senior Engineering Director of IPN Experiences.
This position is located in Denver, Colorado as a hybrid position requiring 3 days in office, (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates must live in the United States.
What you will be doing:
Join special projects as needed through coding, guiding, and mentoring to ensure sound architectural implementation and smooth execution and delivery
Be accountable for the coordination, execution, and outcomes of system design and architecture of data driven systems (including client focused groups)
Be the first point of contact to and from the Architecture Team and participate as appropriate in Architecture Team activities
Monitor current topics and the architectural direction of other groups, and keep IPN Experiences leaders and Staff+ engineers informed
Establish architecture vision, principles, and patterns in alignment with the Architecture Team
Work closely with the Senior/Engineering Directors, and Staff+ Engineers to inform the technical strategy for IPN Experiences and its comprised groups
Partner with and across engineering groups to help maintain Ibotta’s Technology Radar

What we are looking for:
7+ years of experience in software development
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
Fundamental knowledge of object-oriented software design, development and architectural principles
Strong track record of success in driving results as a senior technical team lead and coach/mentor to more junior engineers
Expertly work across stacks and design with client and platform in mind
Proven expertise owning and driving high-level decisions around object-oriented software design, development and architectural principles
Highly effective in leading others collaboratively to deliver a common vision
Deep understanding of development best practices including security, compliance, performance, optimization, reliability, cost efficiency, etc.
Deep understanding of building highly scalable, observable, and fault tolerant platforms using architectural patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, rate limiters, etc on top of horizontally scalable systems
Proven experience with relevant technologies such as Typescript, JavaScript libraries and frameworks, Ruby on Rails, Java, Kotlin, Nodejs, etc, and data stores such as MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, etc, and knowing when to use each
Proven experience designing and implementing observability, monitoring and alerting for services and establishing SLOs for services
High level of investment and expertise in testing approaches and frameworks, from unit testing to automated testing
Proven expertise with cloud environments (AWS strongly preferred), DevOps best practices, and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, etc)
Deep understanding of architectural concepts, microservices, serverless, event-driven, platforms, etc.
Experience building design systems, reusable web components, and site factories, a major plus

Additional Details:
This position is located in Denver, CO and includes competitive pay, flexible time off, benefits package (including medical, dental, vision), Lifestyle Spending Account, and 401k match. Denver office perks include paid parking, bagel Thursdays, snacks and occasional meals.
Base compensation range: $160,000 - $185,000. Equity is included in overall compensation package. This compensation range is specific to the United States labor market and may be adjusted based on actual experience. Total compensation for this role also includes a variable component in addition to base salary.
