Position Description:

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin are seeking a Surgical Director, Heart Transplant within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Department of Surgery. The ideal candidate would perform all aspects of cardiac or thoracic surgery and have the leadership qualities and passion to lead our expanding Heart Transplant Program. The Division is seeking a UNOS-certified candidate who demonstrates excellent clinical skills and a collaborative leadership style. Academic rank would be commensurate with previous experience. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a growing academic heart transplant program with one of the most experienced Cardiothoracic transplant teams in the Midwest.

Join our clinically outstanding practice consisting of 13 cardiothoracic surgeons, 20 advanced practice providers (APPs), and 14 perfusionists that provide world class care for patients from all over Wisconsin and beyond.

Our Transplant Center is a joint program of Children's Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital with vital support by Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin for tissue typing and research initiatives. Representing the most comprehensive pediatric and adult transplant care in Wisconsin, the program is recognized for nationally ranked outcomes, internationally known transplant specialists and end-stage disease management: a critical resource for Wisconsin and beyond.

Patients receive highly individualized care from our multidisciplinary heart transplant team , which includes cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, transplant coordinators, nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, registered dietitians, social workers, financial counselors and psychologists.

On the cutting edge of Heart Transplantation: As an academic medical center involved in ground-breaking research , we offer deep clinical expertise and have specialists skilled at managing even the most complex cases. Our ventricular assist device (VAD) program is recognized by The Joint Commission as an Adult VAD Destination Therapy Program and was awarded the Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission for its Adult VAD Destination Therapy Program. Ours was the first program in Wisconsin to use CARDIOHELP to facilitate patient transport to our hospital for a heart transplant.

The Department of Surgery is comprised of 11 divisions, including 9 clinical divisions, a Division of Education, and a Division of Research, including >100 clinical faculty. Under the leadership of the Chair of Surgery, Douglas B. Evans, MD, the department is committed to clinical excellence, innovative surgical research, academic achievement/professional development, and surgical education. The Department has a large clinical presence on the campus of the academic medical center and the Zablocki VA Medical Center, along with a significant number of regional affiliations and practice locations outside of the metro Milwaukee area.

There are approximately 110 full time and P/T faculty and 60 trainees including a residency and six fellowship programs. The Department has an annual budget of $103M with annual research funding of approximately $8 million.
