Infrastructure Engineer
Job Description:
The Infrastructure Engineer ensures the reliability and stability of assigned platforms and systems. Completes technical tasks, troubleshoots issues, provides input on methods and systems, and provides off-hours support (on-call) as a part of a rotation, under general supervision.
Responsibilities:
Completes service requests and maintenance support in a timely manner.
Documents the use of new features and procedures to improve server host systems and security operations.
Assists with configuration management and change control of host systems.
Assists with implementing host systems upgrades and expansions without adversely affecting systems availability.
Cross-trains 1st/2nd level host systems support persons.
Ensures availability of host systems and related applications.
Communicates issues and outages to direct management and peers through evaluating, implementing, maintaining, and improving host systems management tools.
Ensures host systems security and supports peers with security issues.
Participates as a resource in Severity Level 1 and Crit Sit situations.
Participates in a rotational on-call schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 years of enterprise host systems administration experience, host configuration management, and production support.
Experience with enterprise host system installations; including issues such as environmental, power management, space management, density, cable routing, etc.
Professional Certification(s):
Working toward relevant host systems certifications are preferred, such as: A+ Security, Linux+, VCP, CCA, HP ASE, MCP, MCTS, IBM Certified System Administrator (AIX, iSeries, WebSphere) and/or VMWare System Certification.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of system hardware on supported platforms: Mainframe, Unix, AS/400 and/or x86 hardware.
SQL, MS Azure, Power BI (preferred)
Knowledge of operating system architecture, design, and concepts.
Ability to research for the next generation of hardware/software platforms.
Ability to test and document the use of new features and procedures to improve server host systems and security operations.
Ability to handle the lead technical role in at least 1-2 concurrent projects with supervision.
