About the Role
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key leadership role with a primary focus on formulating and advising on clinical policies and programs within the emergency medical services field. The CMO provides clinical leadership and oversight on a wide range of medical decision-making processes, including but not limited to, scope of practice, trauma system organization, and specific medical requirements such as stroke and heart attack care. This position demands the highest level of skills and knowledge, as the CMO is responsible for ensuring the quality of patient care and the effective coordination of emergency medical services, injury prevention, and disaster medical response. The incumbent also plays a critical role in advising on clinical best practices and must be prepared to work in emergency operations, providing support and leadership in the Departmental Operations Center and other emergency response settings.Applicants for the CMO position must have a comprehensive knowledge of emergency and prehospital medicine, including clinical expertise, evidence-based medicine, and EMS system design and operations. The role requires the ability to ensure regulatory compliance, oversee disaster medical services operations, and optimize resource deployment during emergencies. The CMO is expected to reason logically and creatively, resolve complex problems, and effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders. The position demands a candidate who can work effectively under stressful conditions, including weekends, holidays, and during extended and rotating shifts. A primary residency in the state is also a mandatory requirement for this role.
