Position Overview:
Pareto Health is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter to join our team. This role is pivotal in assessing and managing the risks associated with self-funded / fully insured health plans, using stoploss insurance. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in analyzing complex health risks and crafting stoploss strategies that align with our commitment to providing innovative and cost-effective healthcare solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwrite using a best in class captive offering and create profitable stop loss offering for prospective captive members
Conduct thorough risk assessments of prospective Pareto captive members who are currently both fully insured and self-funded health plans to determine appropriate stoploss coverage levels and premiums.
Analyze healthcare data, including claims and utilization patterns, to forecast potential risks and cost implications and support
Partner with Sales team to educate consultants on financials required to join captive
Effectively execute in an environment of incomplete information
Understand competitive market dynamics and react appropriately
Provide guidance and training to junior underwriters and other team members, enhancing the overall expertise of the department.
Enhance your own skills around knowledge of medical treatments and projected costs in partnership with clinical risk team
Ensure adherence to industry standards and legal requirements in all underwriting decisions and practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, actuarial science, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in stoploss underwriting, with a proven track record in handling complex health risks. Experience with captives a plus but not required.
Proficiency in underwriting software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional ability to analyze data, identify trends, and solve underwriting challenges.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Strong team player, capable of working effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Strong understanding of stoploss products/ self funding, healthcare industry trends, and regulatory landscape.
