General Position Summary: The Substitute Teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills as set forth by the regular classroom teacher. This position is hired and evaluated by the Principal.
Principal Accountabilities (keep at a high level, no more than 10):
Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and the Diocese
Abides by the confidentiality policy set forth in the Diocesan Employee Handbook.
Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for the students.
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.
Supervise students in and out of the classroom and in the halls.
Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.
For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans.
Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree required
Teaching experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
Knowledge of the subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
Able to manage student behavior in a classroom setting
Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
Able to work well with others in a school community
Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction
Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process
Skill in job-appropriate technology
Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
Skill in critical thinking and planning
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
This position works in a typical office environment and is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.
