Role Description
As the Senior Director of Engineering at FirstParty, you will work with us to scale our early success with companies to build strong data practices and maximize their data initiatives. You will not only oversee and guide your team but also contribute individually to the engineering efforts. This role requires balancing strategic leadership with hands-on technical contributions, ensuring the team's success while directly impacting the product and technology direction.
In this role, you will spearhead strategic data initiatives, leveraging deep domain knowledge on critical steps to drive success. You will shape and execute a tech roadmap focused on automation, leading the execution to ensure our technological advancements align with business objectives. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management
Prioritize hiring efforts to focus on areas of most need and recruit top engineering talent.
Motivate and communicate across multiple levels of the department.
Develop, measure, and manage key metrics for the group's performance.
Provide a consistent and successful interface between Engineering Development and Product Stakeholders.
Standardize the development process where needed, allowing local differences where advantageous.
Maintain a healthy, productive team environment and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Technical Leadership
Collaborate and make proposals across several teams on engineering work, guiding informed decisions in alignment with strategic plans.
Work directly with the executive team to propose new initiatives that deliver client solutions.
Identify opportunities to reuse or generalize existing services and product features to avoid duplication of effort.
Plan improvements and features with a long-term view (e.g., 6 months).
Solve technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity.
Propose and support architectural changes that solve scaling and performance problems.
Participate in on-call rotations to assist troubleshooting product operations, security operations, and urgent engineering issues.
Qualifications
Proficiency in using AWS services such as EC2, S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, and SageMaker
Prior experience launching a product from ideation to release
Strong ability to prototype React UIs and iterate given client feedback
Excellent communication skills
Expert hiring manager skills and experience
Agile project management skills
Commitment to understanding, communicating, and improving the quality of multiple teams
Demonstrate longevity at at least one recent job
Understanding of how to successfully manage at a hybrid company
Humble, servant leader
Deep expertise in relevant technology domains
Ability to solve complex technical problems and guide architectural decisions
Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and handle urgent issues
