Director of research, Department of Emergency Medicine

At Geisinger, our goal is to make better health possible through research! We leverage our high-quality patient care; fully integrated healthcare system; large, stable patient population; advanced electronic health record; and clinical data warehouse to create healthcare services and delivery which will improve quality of care while enhancing access and affordability.

In 2023, our Emergency Department published 21 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters/textbooks and presented our work at 70 scientific conferences. System-wide we had >$57 million in external grant and contract revenue, >1,400 active research projects, including clinical trials, and >1,090 publications.

The Director of Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) will:

Oversee the coordination, development, and quality improvement of research activities.

Work closely with theEM residency program leadershipto improve resident training and foster healthy intellectual dialogue.

Assist EMstaff/CoreFaculty in effortsto improvefaculty engagement in research and scholarly activities.

Provide oversight of the research coordinator position.

Lead maintenance and improvement of the research program.

Assist the EM residency program director regarding compliance with RRC regulations.

Work closely with Geisinger core research team to coordinate programs and projectsthat advance the mission of Emergency Medicine research at Geisinger.

This full-time position is split 40% research and 60% clinical. Education and experience (Required):

Career emergency physician with proven research experience, including success in obtaining and leading federally funded or equivalent research.

Minimum of 10 years of clinical practice.

Board certification in emergency medicine by ABEM or AOBEM.

Experience in research mentoring and collaborative program building.

Progressive care models focused on innovative early intervention and post-acute care options rather than historical reactivity to decrease hospital and ED congestion.

Growing pediatric emergency medicine program.

Established trauma program with trauma designations at multiple sites. Each region includes a Level 1 trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and STEMI receiving center.

Embedded, multi-disciplinary team of care managers and clinical pharmacists in emergency departments to create a holistic, streamlined process from triage to discharge.
