Science is developing a software platform that will touch every partof the company, from collecting neural data to tracking devicesthrough assembly to streamlining purchasing. We are looking for anexperienced web engineer to join onsite in Alameda, CA to help buildout this platform, in close collaboration with a world-class team ofscientists and engineers. You will work with the microfabrication,biology, animal behavior, surgery, and ops teams to build tools thatthey will use every day. Great communication skills are a must, andwe're looking for technical and product judgment above all: can youask the right questions to absorb other people’s mental models, thenturn around and build things that make sense for the situation,quickly?
Key Qualifications 5+ years as a web software engineer, including significant depth inboth frontend and backend engineering.
Ability to act as your own product manager and track down the nextproject that will be most immediately useful for the least codingeffort.
A strong sense of when it's appropriate to address mountingtechnical debt, and when to keep building new features.
Demonstrated ability to quickly ship with little oversight in achaotic startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications Our stack is Rails / React / Typescript / PostgreSQL. Experiencewith at least some of these technologies is a major plus.
Experience with app deployment / devops.
A healthy distrust of the cloud.
Science is required under California law to include a reasonableestimate of the compensation range for this role. We determineyour level based on your interview performance and make an offer basedon the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-timeposition is $130,000 – $200,000 annually + equity + benefits. Withinthe range, individual pay is determined by several factors, includingjob-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is notincluded in these numbers.
