Licensed Vocational Nurse - Float - Specialty - Pleasanton Rd

General Summary: The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides patient education on specialty treatments and procedures. Provides direct patient care to patients and assists doctors as needed. Starts IV's & administers IV medications when ordered. Provides leadership, direction, and support to medical assistants on patient related issues. Maintains and upholds established patient care, operational expectations, and employee policies in alignment with the clinic operational leadership teams. Supports the Gonzaba coordinated care model by working with all GMG providers and supporting departments/functions to ensure a patient-centered approach is provided at all times.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

General Requirements: All duties performed will be done accurately and in a timely manner.

Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical competencies according to Gonzaba Medical Group policy.

Ensures customer service is always maintained at the highest level.

Exercise tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers.

Must always adhere to customer service expectations including in-person and virtual (via telephone, or telehealth applications) communication.

Participates in educational programs as needed.

This position may require driving a company vehicle or a personal vehicle; therefore, employees must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current valid Texas Driver License, and proof of current insurance to be subject for mileage reimbursement.

Assists different teams as necessary including performing the duties of other personnel as needed.

Essential Job Responsibilities: Provides patient care in a clinic setting. Functions within the scope of training received from Medical Assistant education program and from Gonzaba Medical Group training programs including, but not limited to obtaining vital signs, applying monitoring devices such as pulse oximeter and EKG leads/pads, venipuncture, glucose monitoring or hemoccult slide development.

Participates in and aids during code blue situations as directed by the code blue team leader.

Provides leadership, directions, and support to medical assistance and LVN's on the issues, outpatient care, medications, or scheduling.

Leads patient education classes including instruction on specialty care, medication administration, triages walk-in patients, and triage calls when needed.

Maintains urgent care schedule via the computer. Cancels and reschedules appointments as needed.

Prepares the patient for each visit by obtaining the patient's medical chart, preparing medical chart with previous visit information, taking vital signs, checking their blood pressure, allergies, and weight, and placing them in the exam room.

Phone patients as needed regarding results, changes in medication, dosage, and other information provided by the physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner.

Accurately and timely documents care provided to the patient.

Maintains cabinet with medical samples: categorization, expiration dates, etc.

Follows universal precaution standards about patients, procedures, handling specimens, cleaning and disinfecting instruments and exam rooms as taught and retrained through annual compliance training.

Assists in providing quality health care by accessing the electronic medical record to obtain/provide pertinent information. Reports accurate information to the provider and documents appropriately./

Performs patient discharge and participates in patient education utilizing provider guidelines and/or patient information handouts. Ensures patient understanding and documents thoroughly.

Transports patients safely from the following positions: sitting to standing or laying down, from standing to sitting or lying down, from laying down to standing or sitting, and assist to the bathroom, into/out of wheelchairs, and pushing/pulling patients in wheelchairs.

Able to work efficiently under pressure.

Maintain strict confidentiality while adhering to all HIPAA rules and regulations.

Required flexibility to work at diverse locations as needed, demonstrating adaptability and willingness to travel in support of job responsibilities.

Education and Training: Graduation from an approved practical nursing program. Must be a state-licensed practical nurse. Must be CPR and AED certified . Must keep all licenses and certifications current and in good standing as initial and continued employment is contingent up these credentials. Must have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Must have a good understanding of documentation standards.

Experience: Experience in a clinic, doctor's office, or hospital with a minimum of one-year experience preferred.

Other Requirements: Computer Skills : Skilled in use of computer/EMR systems. Knowledge of Word processing software, spreadsheet software, Internet, and database software.

Work Environment: Clinic environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Mental / Physical Requirements: Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, and lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work efficiently under pressure.
