Peer Support Specialist (SAMHSA)

PRC Baker Places is a non-profit residential treatment agency that has provided the San Francisco community with alternatives to institutional care since 1964. Our direct care professionals provide counseling and case management services to previously homeless adults living with co-occurring diagnoses of chronic mental illness and substance use disorder. All agency services are provided from the philosophy of social rehabilitation which integrates teaching daily living skills in a safe and healthy environment.

Position Overview

The SAMHSA Peer Support Specialist works as a member of a team to help build better connections and treatment follow-up for people who received services from the HIV/Hep C testing grant who are out in the community or other residential treatment settings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position involves participation and implementation of grant goals consistent with funding requirements.

Ongoing outreach to existing clients for improved 6-month follow up interviews.

Complete all tracking and reporting requirements for outcomes and evaluation.

Promotes client engagement with wellness services and recovery activities.

Demonstrate ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds.

Work with program staff to obtain support and build skills to be effective in the position.

Other duties to be assigned as required.

Comfortable working with people with mental health and substance use disorder issues

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred completion of a mental health, peer counselor certificate program

Preferred 2 – 4 years of direct lived or supportive experience with SF behavioral health and HIV/AIDS provider systems

Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and Hep C, and the potential impacts to client’s life

Basic knowledge of Microsoft products preferred
