Position Summary

Roosevelt University (RU) is seeking a faculty member eligible for appointment as an associate or full professor, with a record of externally funded lab-based research in biological, biochemical or biomedical science, and with experience in academic leadership. This new position is integral to RU’s growth and innovation under its “Producing Research and Innovation through a Mentoring Ecosystem” (RU PRIME ) initiative, as funded by the U.S. Department of Education under a highly selective, multi-year grant award. RU PRIME reflects the University’s commitment to invest in self-sustaining and integrated graduate degree programs that support underrepresented STEM students from entry into RU through graduation. RU seeks an academic and culture leader to bring student-centric services and an innovative vision to bear on the initiative’s development, continual improvement, and fulfillment of its commitment to the University.

In addition to their research and teaching roles as faculty member, the successful candidate will be appointed as Director of the Biosciences program with a 3-year, renewable appointment. In this position, they will be responsible for: recruiting and hiring a faculty research cluster focused on biomedical sciences or biosciences and lead program development, in collaboration with RU faculty and leadership: designing, earning accreditation for, and implementing two graduate degree programs (first, an MS degree, and later a doctoral degree) over the duration of the grant; and assisting in developing a vertically-integrated research ecosystem that supports underrepresented STEM students.

This is a full-time, academic year, exempt, faculty position with occasional evening and weekend work required. The Director appointment is year-round. The position is in-person, based at the Schaumburg campus with up to 20% time on the Chicago campus. Per USCIS regulations, this position requires US citizenship or permanent residency.

Roosevelt University is a private, non-sectarian university with 4,500 students studying at campuses in Chicago’s south Loop, suburban Schaumburg and online. Founded on the principles of inclusion and social justice, Roosevelt is the fourth most ethnically diverse college in the Midwest, with a mission to prepare students to assume roles as leaders in their professions and communities.
