About the Role

The New York Times is looking for a Manager, Data & Insights, Growth. As part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), you will join a large community of accomplished data analysts who partner with Product, Engineering, and Design teams across the business. You’ll work on our Conversion Team to help the broader Growth mission hit quarterly and long-term subscriber acquisition goals. More specifically, you’ll help monitor and evaluate NYT’s subscriber acquisition efforts. You’ll also have the opportunity to conduct generative research to identify opportunities for future improvements. You will report to the Executive Director of Data & Insights - Conversion.

Responsibilities:

+ You will define strategy within the Conversion team’s problem space and lead the definition and execution of solutions

+ You will identify opportunities for developing scalable data assets and execute on them by developing your own data pipelines, documentation, and long-term maintenance plan

+ You will support data-oriented analyses, produce insights useful to the business, and present to partners and leaders across the organization

+ You will evaluate a broad range of digital experiments and contribute to best practices for experiment design, hypothesis generation, sample size, and counter metrics

+ You will implement monitoring and other outlier detection tools to monitor the performance of our UX at scale

+ You will democratize data and insights through skillful data structuring and use of visualization tools

+ You will lead all phases of analytic work from defining problems to presenting results

+ You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (ytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

+ 5+ years of experience working on data analytics or data science teams where you analyzed time series trends, generated insights that drove decision-making, and developed tools that democratized data for partners throughout the company

+ 5+ years of experience applying statistics to strategic problems

+ Mastery of SQL and experience working in Google BigQuery, AWS, or other big data environments

+ 5+ years of experience with data visualization tools like Mode or Tableau

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Mastery of Python or R

+ 5+ years of experience with digital experimentation

+ Mastery of version control (Github, code review)

The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$120,000 — $135,000 USD
