About The Team

The Information Security and Privacy team at SmartThings is responsible for empowering our partners to succeed safely and securely. The world of IoT represents many new opportunities for how computers interact with the world around, and with that brings new challenges. As a Privacy Software Engineer your role will support our ecosystem, its expansion, and growing list of new features to ensure the assets of SmartThings and our users are protected at all times.

Key Responsibilities This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.

About The Role

As a Privacy Software Engineer at SmartThings, you will:  Collaborate with partner teams to achieve key initiatives by providing privacy expertise.

Develop and implement effective security and privacy controls for cloud-based and distributed architectures.

Ensure necessary privacy requirements are well understood and privacy processes are in place while empowering engineers to do their jobs confidently.

Assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of security measures and recommend enhancements.

Evaluate response methodologies to ensure a quick and thorough response to privacy issues.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications) 3+ years of experience in privacy operations or similar experience.

Knowledge of privacy principles and regulations.

Experience with developing and/or recommending privacy controls.

Familiar with fundamental computer science concepts.

Desired Skills Scripting/Programming skills

Understanding of IoT and wireless communications (WiFi, Zigbee, Z-Wave)

Familiarity with AWS (EC2, Networking, Security Hub, Inspector, etc.)

Familiarity with privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Minneapolis is expected to be between $88,819 and $126,123. Additionally, this role is eligible for a 15% annual target bonus potential, depending on company and individual performance.
