Job Title: Independent Living Specialist (ILS) / Aging and Disability Resource Connection Options Counselor
Work Location (s): Portland Oregon
Salary Range : $43,500 - $47,500 (depending on education, experience)
Work Schedule: 8:30 am – 5 pm Monday-Friday
Job Purpose
The Independent Living Specialist/Options Counselor conducts outreach activities to people with disabilities. The ILS provides individual or group-based services. The ILS/ Options Counselor assists people with disabilities by assisting them to learn advocacy skills, understanding and exploring individual options, and accessing resources to remove barriers to their independent living . The ILS is also responsible for representing ILR and people with disabilities on local and state planning committees, and outreach events.
Qualifications/Skills
❖ Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus but not required
❖ Work or personal life experience in disability services.
❖ Degree in human services, public health, or other related fields, or related
❖ Experience for two years of full-time (or equivalent), regardless of academic preparation.
❖ Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for outreach activities, service delivery, meetings, and events.
❖ Must be able to pass a criminal history background check.

We are a peer-based disability service center, part of a national network of more than 500 CILs with shared core values and core services. Our vision is to offer people with all types of disabilities Information & Referral, Options/Peer Counseling, Skills Training, Transition Services to Independent Community Living and Self-Advocacy/Systems Advocacy. We are a staff of about 15 people with at any time two graduate social work students completing field work at our site. While most of the ILR staff are people with disabilities themselves, we are also professionals with certifications as Information & Referral Specialists, Options Counselors, Psychologists, Work Incentives Coordinators and Public Health Advocates.
