Job Summary
The Data Architect will be responsible for developing new strategies for acquiring, analyzing, modeling, and storing data. This role will guide our company into the future and utilize the latest technology and information management methodologies to meet our requirements for effective logical data modeling, metadata management and database warehouse domains.
Duties and responsibilities
Grow data platform capabilities to solve new data problems and challenges leveraging approved Cloud platforms
Develop architectural strategies for data modeling, design, and implementation to meet stated requirements for metadata management, operational data stores and Extract Transform Load environments
Review existing data architectures to determine overall effectiveness and compliance with original objectives, develop comprehensive strategies for improving or replacing underperforming areas and present these plans to managers and executives
Help the team optimize Cloud platform architectures
Lead and/or contribute to the design and development of cloud-based data systems
Set standards for data management, analyze current state, and conceive desired future state, and conceive projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals
Define how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and IT systems, any applications using or processing that data in some way
Establish and enforce data governance functions and frameworks
Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure that technology decisions align with the overall Enterprise Architecture Framework / Roadmap
Partner with business analysts and customers to translate business and data requirements into logical and physical data models in support of Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)
Collaborate with data stewards and business customers to identify data usage patterns and formulate business names, definitions, and data quality rules for data elements
Generate and maintain the enterprise data asset catalog
Support database administrators, network designers and IT personnel to create effective and secure methods for data backup and recovery
Create and manage business metadata and consistent data definitions across the business units for published data sources to ensure that it is easily discoverable, and meaningful to information workers
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, data architecture, information management or similar field; or equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge and skills.
At least 5+ years of experience in a Data Architect role
At least three years of data architecture experience, large-scale data modeling, database design, and business requirements analysis
Technical leadership abilities in data architecture
Strong understanding of the best practices in data modeling techniques including in-depth knowledge of the various normalization, dimensional modeling, and their appropriate usage in various solutions
Demonstrate experience in large scale enterprise and data warehouse initiatives, involving multiple departments
Ability to communicate strategies and processes around data governance and modeling across departments and senior leaders
Knowledge of database administration, and performance tuning
Proficient with database modeling and management tools
Creative problem-solver with strong communication skills
Extensive design and implementation experience in distributed system and cloud service
Experience with Cloud Platforms like Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Snowflake is a must
Experience in ML or/and graph analysis is a plus
Proficient in SQL, Python
Expert level understanding of relational database concepts, dimensional database concepts and database architecture and design
Familiarity with reporting/ad-hoc analysis tools such as Power BI, Looker, Tableau
