Job Overview:
We are seeking a Director of Tribal Relations to lead our organization's efforts in building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with Native American tribes. This senior-level role involves developing and executing strategies for collaboration on community initiatives, ensuring that our programs align with and respect tribal sovereignty and cultural values.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies for engagement with Native American tribes.
Foster strong, respectful, and mutually beneficial relationships with tribal leaders and communities.
Collaborate with tribal entities on projects and initiatives that align with their needs and our mission.
Advocate for and support policies that respect tribal sovereignty and benefit tribal communities.
Ensure cultural sensitivity and appropriateness in all interactions and programs involving tribal communities.
Represent the organization at tribal meetings, conferences, and events.
Manage a team focused on tribal relations and community engagement.
Qualifications:
Degree in Native American Studies, Public Policy, Social Work, or related field.
Extensive experience working with Native American tribes and understanding tribal sovereignty.
Strong leadership skills and experience in managing teams.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and cultural competency skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Willingness to travel to tribal communities as needed.
