In addition, the department manager will work closely with the Vice President for the Materials and Microsystems Laboratory and with key technical leaders within the department on a wide range of tactical and strategic development efforts.

Technical contributions (through direct technical work and/or technical project leadership) should be aligned with the skills and capabilities of the department in one or more of the following areas: quantum architecture, quantum characterization/verification/validation methods, quantum control software, semiconductor and superconductor device modeling, and quantum optoelectronics.

Technical and managerial duties require candidate to present details of work to colleagues during design/code reviews, create and manage work plans to meet or exceed schedule deadlines, and provide written and oral summaries of work performed as needed (e.g. for reports).

Required Skills:

At least 5 years of experience in a role involving leadership of highly trained technical staff.

Demonstrated experience with successful resource allocation and management. Experience with line management functions, such as drafting of job descriptions, hiring staff, and providing critical feedback to staff.

More than 10 years of experience in one or more of the technical areas outlined above, preferably in a research and development environment.

Physical Requirements:

Proficiency in use of computers, programming technical simulation software, software development, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently.

Required Education:

MS or PhD in physics, applied physics, computer science, or related scientific field.

Special Requirements:

US Citizenship required. Must have or be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
