Hummingbird specializes in community engagement, strategy and data analytics, and training for various industries, primarily transportation, environmental justice, and energy equity. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, building, implementing, and monitoring the outreach and engagement strategies for our clients in these industries.
Duties include project management, writing and design, data collection and analysis, web-based and digital communications, mapping displays, customized online and print surveys, public meeting planning and implementation, presentation development, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution. This position will report to the Director of Operations. In addition to the work products, the successful candidate will establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, communities in which we work, target industries we serve, and other Hummingbird employees.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THIS ROLE?
Provide strategy and monitor the development and execution of community engagement plans
Apply innovative communications tools and tactics (i.e., web, mobile, social media, print, digital, and/or video) to effectively communicate key messages to target audiences to shape and improve public engagement products and programs.
Develop, edit, and implement the presentation of digital content through a wide variety of technologies using software for graphics, animation, text, multimedia, dynamic, and/or interactive content presentation.
Utilize state-of-the-art ideas for events and exhibits that spark imagination and provide an environment to foster transformational change for our clients and stakeholders.
Research industry best practices and provide ongoing improvements to existing public engagement programs and products.
Lead special initiatives that genuinely engage stakeholders and employees in public works projects.
Provide project management for the assigned client portfolio, including managing project budgets, timelines, and subcontractors, if applicable.
Collaborate across diverse teams to create innovative, new initiatives that lead to expanded impact.
Lead quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Synthesize public input to advise clients on how to meaningfully incorporate it into the planning and decision-making process in the respective industry (e.g., transportation planning, environmental policy, etc.).
Represent Hummingbird community engagement initiatives at professional conferences when necessary, including presenting papers and posters as a professional communicator.
Work with Hummingbird’s technical staff to deliver written project reports.
Work with Hummingbird’s Sales & Marketing staff to produce client proposals and presentations.
Provide quality assurance and quality control reviews and guidance.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Development/Management, Transportation Planning, Environmental Science or Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Education, or related discipline
Minimum of 10 years of related experience
Must have excellent writing, composition, and presentation skills
Significant experience using communication tools (web, mobile, social media, print, digital, and/or video) to effectively communicate messages
Proficiency (expertise is a plus) in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to quickly learn how to use other software such as Nifty, Harvest, Adobe Creative Suite
Possess a background in managing budgets and determining appropriate budget levels to support the project scope of work
Demonstrated experience leading the end-to-end creation and production of exhibits, websites, surveys, and products and communicating regularly with all stakeholders
Experience interfacing with senior internal and external stakeholders across various strategic and budgetary issues
Ability to build consensus and work collaboratively for impactful solutions with community, employee, and public interest groups
Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s license
Industry experience strongly desired: environmental, energy, transportation, development, and other related industries

COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $76,000-$90,000
