Regional Associate Director of Conflicts (New Business) Cooley is seeking a Regional Associate Director of Conflicts (New Business) to join the Business Intake and Conflicts team.
Position summary: The Business Intake and Conflicts function ("BIC") is essential to the firm's (1) compliance with (a) ethical obligations prevailing in jurisdictions in which the firm maintains offices and in which it practices and (b) the firm's Risk Management policies and procedures, (2) avoidance of malpractice claims and ethical violations, and (3) ability to onboard new business, in the form of new clients and new matters for existing clients, new timekeepers and new employees in a timely fashion.
Working closely with the Director of BIC, the Regional Associate Director of Conflicts (New Business) is responsible for managing the new business BIC team members for their assigned region. The Regional Associate Director of Conflicts (New Business) will also help execute strategies, so the team is clearing new business promptly, attorneys are receiving an ethical yes and the team advisors and analysts are providing sophisticated, high caliber conflicts results. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position responsibilities:
Manage, oversee and support the new business BIC team members for assigned region
Collaborate with the Director of BIC to ensure the team is consistently supporting the goals and objectives fo the BIC department and is operating with a standard of excellence
Consistently work with the Director of BIC to make sure BIC advisor and analyst teams are clearing conflicts promptly and accurately
Serve as primary conflicts clearance contact for assigned region business hours and help prioritize incoming new business forms
Actively collaborate with fellow regional leaders to ensure consistency and quality across the divisions.
Work with the Director of BIC and analyst teams to identify and escalate business trends and strategic conflicts appropriately
Assist BIC advisors and analysts to resolve complex, high-level conflict issues
Routinely quality check work so the department is returning high caliber results to attorneys
Support Director of BIC with hiring and creating a strategic staffing plan consistent with the firm's business needs
Support Director of BIC in providing regular training to the advisor and analyst teams
Help monitor daily and monthly business metrics to maximize the team's productivity and efficiency
Coordinate with other team leaders to monitor the workflow and confirm that daily tasks are completed timely and consistent with departmental standards
Regularly support the other members of BIC's leadership team and assist on projects and issues, as needed
Participate in and contribute to department software enhancements so our platforms are supporting users and supporting of Cooley's risk management policies
Work with and respond to requests from the General Counsel's Office
Actively provide suggestions and regularly support efforts to make sure the team is bonding with one another and participating in Cooley culture
Maintain knowledge of current trends
Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events

Skills and experience:
Required :
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
Ability to travel, as required
Juris doctorate
8+ years of applicable experience
Proficiency in drafting conflict waivers
Experience developing policies and procedures for conflicts clearance, analysis and other business intake issues
Ability to effectively work with attorneys, business professionals in other departments and outside contacts
Extensive and thorough knowledge of rules governing conflicts of interest
Preferred :
Prior experience as a practicing attorney
Prior experience with Intapp Open and Intapp Walls
Competencies:
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to interact with attorneys, all levels of management, staff and outside third parties in highly effective and professional manner
Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
Strong project management skills
Ability to work well in a team environment and with diverse groups across all of the firm's offices

The expected annual pay range for this position is $165,000 - $205,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
