**Description**

**OVERVIEW:**

The Inventory Associate is responsible for the assisting with the daily retail inventory operations of the Museum Store at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. The incumbent provides accurate and efficient processing of incoming merchandise. They conduct the daily replenishment of merchandise from warehouse locations, and process the shipments received under purchase order. The associate collaborates with store management on appropriate stock levels and distribution and serve as primary backup to Sales Associates as business requires.

**REPORTS TO:**

Inventory Operations Supervisor

**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:**

1. Prioritizes and processes newly received merchandise to be checked in. Works closely with inventory operations supervisor and museum store manager to coordinate priorities.

2. Accurately counts and tickets incoming merchandise and re-prices merchandise, when needed, including merchandise on sales floor. Consistently reports price changes to team leaders.

3. Leads in the daily restocking of sold merchandise and assists in determining the stocking priorities of the sales floor daily. First priority is replenishment of sales floor, then the distribution of newly processed stock. Presents new stock to Store colleagues at daily morning meetings.

4. Maintains cleanliness and organization of incoming merchandise and surrounding areas. Assembles new inventory displays in the warehouse for placement on the sales floor and removes old ones.

5. Completes regular floor walks ensuring that there is an efficient flow of inventory. Restocks apparel and logo items regularly and reports low inventory to management. Completes daily receiving sheets in store software and delivers them to inventory operations supervisor at end of each work day.

6. Collaborates with inventory operations supervisor and store manager, in determining quantities of merchandise to be sent to sales floor. Assists in opening of new locations, as applicable and proper flow of seasonal merchandise.

7. Inspects incoming merchandise for quality, errors, damages, appropriate language, and safety. Reports necessary information to inventory operations supervisor and buyer and product development manager. Ensures all imprinted items are approved by the buyer and product development manager prior to being sent to sales floor.

8. Accurately completes all paperwork required to process merchandise. Accurately completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports pertaining to warehouse productivity and reports status to management. Continually strives to keep average receiving statistics high while maintaining efficiency.

9. Assists in identifying slow selling, high theft and high damage product in a timely manner and reports information to inventory operations supervisor for appropriate disposition.

10. Processes all customers shipping. Packages, and distributes to dock staff for UPS, Federal Express or USPS processing. Processes sale and shipping of web-based orders through the register function of the Store software

**REQUIREMENTS:**

1. Retail sales experience and inventory operational experience is preferred, but related sales or service experience considered

2. Proven customer and process orientation.

3. Demonstrated proficient math skills needed for accuracy and quality control.

4. Must possess basic computer skills (Word, Excel and Microsoft Office) and ability to learn museum store point-of-sale system.

5. Must be able to cross train for the selling floor, being versatile in duties is required.

6. Demands high level of attention to verbal and written instructions.

7. Must possess communication and organizational skills needed to assess procedural or system needs. Make recommendations for solutions and provide training.

8. Must enjoy high energy interactions with diverse audiences and have the ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner, even under high-stress situations.

9. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment that values diversity and is child-centric.

10. Interact with visitors and co-workers in a supportive, positive, and friendly manner.

11. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

**ADA REQUIREMENTS:**

1. Required to review detailed receiving worksheets and logs.

2. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely to others through verbal and written communication.

3. Must be able to operate a Point of Sale (POS), a computer and uniformly place merchandise. Must be able perform repetitive tasks, kneel, site, stand, and/or climb stairs and ladders and lift 75 pounds to place merchandise on shelves.
