If you're excited about this role, but your experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. We believe tech is only 1/3 of the job. The other 2/3 of that is being a human that appreciates our team and customer. We are interested in working with people with lived experiences because they strengthen our technical delivery and are extremely valuable to our work. That's why our review system focuses on our cultural pillars - Execution, Citizenship, and Diplomacy - in equal measures.

Overview

As a Principal Software Engineer at BrainGu, you will lead the charge in developing mission-critical, scalable, and secure applications as part of our Mission-Apps-as-a-Service offering. This role demands a blend of technical expertise in both front-end and back-end development, a deep commitment to code quality, and a passion for driving technical architecture. You'll work closely with world-class engineering teams and operators to deliver solutions that are not only fast and reliable but also directly aligned with our mission needs. Your leadership will ensure the development of resilient products in React and Python/Django within our dynamic and decoupled application framework.

Responsibilities

Spearhead the development of scalable and resilient web applications, creating frameworks that enhance code quality and enable the writing of maintainable, efficient, and scalable code across the full stack.

Implement advanced security measures in line with the DevSecOps Reference Design, ensuring our applications are protected against threats while adhering to compliance standards.

Utilize sophisticated instrumentation strategies to monitor and optimize performance, ensuring our applications deliver actionable insights and meet high-performance standards.

Drive the technical vision and scalability discussions, working closely with the team to explain the benefits of a dynamic and decoupled development approach, and ensuring our technical solutions are robust, flexible, and future-proof.

Regularly lead technical discussions, share knowledge, mentor engineers across levels, and collaborate with stakeholders to foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Requirements

This position may require a US Government Clearance, which requires US Citizenship

11-13 years of experience as a Full Stack Software Engineer, with expert-level knowledge in React, Python/Django, and familiarity with CI/CD environments.

11-13 years of demonstrated ability leading large-scale projects, ensuring high code quality, security compliance, and performance optimization.

Proven track record in architectural design, capable of making decisions that enhance the scalability and resilience of web applications.

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor engineers, lead by example, and foster collaboration within a diverse and remote-first engineering team.

Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and driving forward the technical vision.

Tech Stack

Django/Python: Expert-level knowledge in developing backend applications with Django and Python. You should be adept at leveraging Django's capabilities to create robust, scalable applications, emphasizing code reusability and maintainability.
