St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a world-class pediatric research hospital. Every one of our professionals shares a commitment to making a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve, including those from across the globe.

The Ultrasound Tech performs diagnostic, research, and contrast ultrasound examinations as requested according to hospital/departmental policies and procedures. Performs imaging guidance for Interventional Procedures and Surgical procedures.

The shift includes 4 weekdays and a Saturday also having take call.

Job Responsibilities: Performs routine ultrasound procedures and routine radiologic procedures. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt exams as appropriate to anatomical, Pathological, diagnostic information and images. Reviews EMR, previous imaging, and exam request for exam planning. Interview patient for pertinent information regarding exam. Reviews imaging with radiologist for interpretation. Maintains patient protocol and procedure log. Demonstrates proper use of and selection of proper transducer for exams. Demonstrates an understanding and knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Participates in the on call schedule/rotation and responds immediately upon notification.

Maintains equipment room and supplies in assigned area. Performs/documents quality control procedures as required. Performs routine inventory of supplies and replaces as necessary. Monitors utilization of supplies to ensure adequate inventory. Maintains cleanliness of work area. Identify, report, and resolve equipment malfunction and failure. Properly tag and transport transducers to sterile processing for HLD when used for specified exams.

Assist Radiologist in special ultrasound procedures. Prepares the necessary equipment and the contrast media if needed. Assists the Radiologist during the procedure

Follows and contributes to quality assurance procedures and programs. Identifies and reports potential problems to supervisor or manager. Collects, prepares, and analyzes data as assigned. Represents US team: quality improvement, patient safety and regulatory initiatives as assigned. Performs and documents quality control procedures.

Collaborates and communicates with clinical staff. Communicates with schedulers and other personnel concerning patient exams. Communicates with radiologists, advanced practitioners and attending clinicians. Coordinates with anesthesia and nursing staff concerning sedated patients. Provides a positive patient experience for patients and families. Handles difficult situations and patient care concerns timely and effectively. Establishes and maintains effective relationships and interactions with internal and external customers.

Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence. Seeks opportunities to develop additional skills and knowledge related to the field of radiology. Completes all mandatory training in a timely manner. Actively attends and participates in departmental and hospital continuing education programs. Identifies individual goals as part of the annual performance review and completes established goals in a time manner.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills (Competencies) necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served. Demonstrates ability to assess and interpret age-specific data about the patients status. Identifies the patients age-specific needs and provides age-appropriate care for all ages served. Serves the following age groups: Infants (birth - 1 year), Toddlers (1-3 years), Preschooler (3-5 years), School-age (6-11 years), Adolescent (12-20 years), Young Adult (21-30 years).

Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the organization.

Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program required.

Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program preferred.

Minimum Experience:

A minimum of one year of Ultrasound experience preferred.

Experience in Diagnostic X-ray preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

(LC: ARRT (R) (S)) OR (LC: ARDMS-SON)Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) required.

(LC: ARRT-R) Registration in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT- R) preferred

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

Pediatric certification within 12 months of start date.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
