Senior Project Manager - Water/Wastewater

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) directly assists the Department Director in successful execution of the department's objectives. They may have less experienced PMs and junior staff reporting directly to them. They will be responsible for managing larger or more complicated projects and will be called upon to help solve more complex issues on smaller projects. They will also assist with mentoring and developing younger staff. They will have more exposure to department wide issues and assignments and the ability to excel without direct oversight. Specific responsibilities include:
Actively manage project scope, schedule, budget and subconsultants
Achieve project management success by consistently performing under budget, ahead of schedule, and with high evaluations/client satisfaction in assigned projects
Develop and enhance client relationships
Serve as a company contact and primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budget, and scope of work to completion to the client's satisfaction
Perform technical discipline tasks including preparation of reports, designs, specifications, and plan preparation to ensure cost-effective development of assigned projects
Mentor less experienced team members and successfully delegate tasks while providing support as needed for them to become self-sufficient
Lead department QA/QC process
Assist Director in development of Department goals and help keep staff focused on achieving them
Assist Director in planning, tracking key metrics, timesheet review and billing to maximize department profit
Actively involved in staff reviews and identification of needed improvement areas
Develop scope and fee documents
Help prepare and review contracts for clients and subconsultants
Participate and conduct business development activities and meetings with clients
Help with preparation and coordination of proposal efforts
Build relationships across the industry to help facilitate teaming opportunities
Support Department Director in other tasks as required
Act in role of Department Director when requested
Help recognize needed training within the department and actively develop or identify appropriate programs
Willingness to participate in leadership and management training to continue to personally and professionally develop
Requirements BS Engineering required, preferably Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical
Indiana PE license with five or more years more responsible in charge
Project engineering and management experience in a consulting firm.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the planning and design of municipal and/or industrial water/wastewater treatment and distribution/collections systems.
Proven project leadership, project management (staffing schedule and budget), and mentoring skills. Experience with managing direct reports is a plus.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Software knowledge: Microsoft Office, Excel, Microsoft Project, Drinking Water, Wastewater, or Stormwater Modeling Software, and basic AutoCAD experience
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
Broad knowledge of water/wastewater design processes and technologies.
Strong business development and strategic planning skills.
The Senior Project Manager should have existing relationships with local and statewide municipal and private clients.
Excellent team player with ability to function effectively in a variety of roles on integrated project teams.
