Our staff works closely with partners at the local, regional, and state levels to create healthier, more connected, equitable and affordable communities. We care about each other as individuals and co-workers and strive to implement a flexible work-life balance, while still meeting the demands of our job.

TransForm is committed to diversity, equity, and justice both within our organization and throughout our work.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you interested in motivating communities to make positive environmental and social change? Do you have a passion for fostering connections with diverse stakeholders, including caregivers, city, district and school staff? Do you have experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, and event planning? Are you a highly organized individual able to maintain precise administrative records? TransForm seeks an experienced individual with excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills who will join the TransForm Programs Team to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities in order to make walking, rolling, and transit affordable and accessible for all. This position will primarily be focused on the Safe Routes to Schools Program and will be working in schools, at home, and in an office setting. Our team is committed to a healthy work/life balance and we are responsive to the needs of staff.

ABOUT SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS:

Safe Routes to Schools is a national and international movement to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children and their families to walk, bicycle, carpool and take transit to and from schools, with a particular emphasis on low-income schools. TransForm provides site coordination for over 290 public schools in the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program.

– Involve stakeholders including city agencies, school districts, and community-based organizations to facilitate program implementation at individual school sites.

– Reach out to and meet with principals and other school staff as needed to successfully implement the program in schools.

– Facilitate educational presentations on active and shared transportation to K-12 students.

– Collaborate with team members to plan education and encouragement activities and events, including but not limited to: Walk and Roll to School Days, the Golden Sneaker Contest, and Bike to School Day, etc.

– Lead program elements, including project planning, delegating tasks to team members through program management software, and following up on team progress and goals.

– Uphold values of TransForm including, but not limited to, cultivating teamwork through leadership, practicing nonviolent communication and providing direct feedback, celebrating team successes and representing Transform at meetings with other consultants, funders, and clients.

– Attend occasional early morning, evening and weekend events as necessary.

– Maintain up-to-date administrative records using database and spreadsheet software.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of issues facing low-income communities of color; ability to work comfortably in diverse communities and settings; high level of cultural competency.

– 2+ years experience implementing a program that engages and empowers caregivers and/or school staff as valuable contributors and decision-makers.

– 2+ years experience engaging volunteers in organizing events and campaigns, conducting outreach, and building support for an ongoing program.

– Experience with planning events, including project planning, setting goals and conducting outreach and publicity.

– Strong written and verbal communication skills.

– A deep commitment to the mission and philosophy of Safe Routes to Schools and TransForm, and a strong desire to advance racial and economic justice through transportation.

– Entrepreneurial, can-do attitude focused on problem-solving.

– Proficiency in Google Suite (i.e., Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Slides and Documents).

Great to also have:

– A deep commitment to equity and social justice issues.

– Work or lived experience within underserved or marginalized communities.

– A strong working knowledge of the diverse populations and communities within Alameda County.

– Bilingual in English and another language commonly spoken in Alameda County.

– A strong spirit of collaboration and willingness to help others.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a full-time, exempt position. The estimated salary range is $67,500 – $71,500/year, depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants expecting the top of the salary range should have all the skills listed under “Great to also have.”
