About The Role

We are seeking a Senior Web Developer to be a key contributor in the design, development, and maintenance of Internet and Intranet web pages and websites using CDC's WordPress-based Web Content Management System (WCMS). This role demands a high level of expertise in visual communications and graphics, as well as proficiency in file and data management and strategic communication counsel. The Senior Web Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance with CDC and HHS web policies and contributing to the overall enhancement of the organization's online presence.

This is a hybrid remote role that will report to work onsite at the CDC Roybal campus in Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities

Web Development Support (Visual Communications/Graphics):

Design, build, and maintain Internet and Intranet web pages and websites using CDC's WordPress-based WCMS, ensuring compliance with CDC and HHS web policies.

Design and create web page graphics using various graphics software applications to support organizational communication strategies.

Develop user interface features, site animation, and special effects elements to enhance the visual appeal of online offerings.

Collaborate with graphic designers and project teams to conceptualize, design, and architecture of CDC websites.

Implement web user-centered design principles.

Collect and analyze web metrics (e.g., usability assessments) to provide recommendations for site improvement.

Work with a team of health communicators to develop digital and web content.

Ensure 508 compliance on all sites and digital products.

File And Data Management

Provide file management support for the program in SharePoint and network drives, following established file management strategies.

Design, program, document, develop, modify, test, install, implement, and support new or existing applications software in a Microsoft SharePoint environment.

Provide support for Microsoft Teams, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.

Provide assistance for data management and reporting, creating dashboards using tools such as Microsoft Lists and Power BI.

Strategic Counsel

Develop communication strategies and recommendations, leveraging communication expertise, including product development.

Regularly meet with clients to discuss performance, propose initiatives, and establish priorities.

Engage in communication regarding performance measurement/metrics, including metrics related to web page hits, social media engagement, and other communication activities. Develop reports as needed from metrics.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum of 10 years experience working for a federal government agency in a web developer role.

Extensive experience in web development and graphics, preferably using CDC's WordPress-based WCMS.

Proficiency in independently updating web pages and websites using web software applications, techniques, and tools using web-based technologies such as Extensible Markup Language (XML), Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)/HTML5, JavaScript (JS)/jQuery, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)/CSS3, Photoshop, and other design-related applications.

Strong knowledge of user interface design principles and web user-centered design.

Ability to optimize images according to client standards using their tools.

Expertise in SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and data management tools (Microsoft Lists, Power BI).

Excellent communication skills with a proven track record of developing effective communication strategies.

Experience in performance measurement/metrics, including web analytics and social media engagement.

Familiarity with 508 compliance standards with the ability to develop clean, 508-compliant HTML 4.01/ XHTML and CSS code quickly and use an enterprise-class content management system.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with clients.

Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilities.

Education and Training

Bachelor's degree in Web Development, Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift 25 pounds occasionally.
