Director of Responsible Conduct of Research Education at Stanford University Stanford University , is recruiting a  Director of  Responsible Conduct of Research Education  to join their Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDOR) team in Palo Alto, CA.

Position Snapshot:

We are seeking a Director of Responsible Conduct of Research Education to provide direction, planning, development, management, and coordination of the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training program. The Director will be responsible for both administrative and operations-related functions of training, communication and outreach to ensure faculty, key personnel on federally sponsored projects, and trainees at Stanford have strong understandings of the ethical conduct of research and compliance responsibilities across a diverse range of areas, including:

PI eligibility, roles and responsibilities.

Peer review and confidentiality.

Financial and administrative oversight of sponsored research.

Mentoring and maintaining a safe research environment.

Research data acquisition, security, management, use, sharing and destruction.

Disclosure and protection of intellectual property.

Research misconduct (falsification, fabrication, plagiarism) and authorship.

Research security, international collaborations and export controls.

Outside activities, COI/COC, and transparency.

Regulatory oversight for human and animal subjects, biosafety.

This will be an individual contributor role, and will be based on Stanford's main campus and will be considered for an option of hybrid work arrangement, subject to operational need.

Anticipated Salary Range:  $150K - $165K annually, commensurate with experience

Develop and implement strategies for the Responsible Conduct of Research education program, including a faculty-umbrella training program and an umbrella RCR introduction for students and trainees.

Enhance the overall faculty experience with research compliance education; identify opportunities to improve compliance training and support resources.

Stay current with ongoing changes to Stanford’s research policies and external regulations; incorporate updates in a timely manner into training and outreach to faculty and key personnel on federally sponsored projects; review offerings and instructional documentation on an ongoing basis to ensure the topics and content remain relevant to campus-wide faculty and trainees.

Keep apprised of federal educational requirements and external resources for education in Research Ethics and Integrity and adjust training materials as needed to meet these obligations.

Evaluate, direct, and oversee the strategic design, process improvement, and implementation of relevant tools and learning opportunities and ensure campus-wide understanding of the required uses of systems, by leveraging knowledge of sponsored projects lifecycle, research policies, business processes, best practices, and administrative systems.

Develop and oversee monitoring activities to ensure compliance with sponsor requirements in RECR.

Partner with the school faculty leadership and leadership of Office of Research Administration (ORA), School of Medicine Research Management Group (RMG), and University Information Technology (UIT) to ensure alignment with training objectives.

Represent VPDOR in collaborations with the schools, departments, and other university administrative units, as well as external entities, as needed.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent planning and organizational skills.

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.

Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.

Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Strong subject matter expertise in research administration in higher education institutions

Demonstrated experience in service design and/or instructional design

Knowledge of software development cycle strongly preferred

Certifications and Licenses:

CRA preferred but not required
