SUMMARY:
The Logistics Technician is a skilled technician responsible for the cleaning, inventory and restocking of ambulances in accordance with guidelines set by the Office of the Medical Director and enforced by the Texas Department of State Health Services as well as the inventory and resupply of all associated medical kits and speed-load bins.
SPECIAL NOTE: This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times. Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working. Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance. This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations. The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment. A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Cleaning and decontaminating the outside and all inside compartments of the ambulance
Accurately perform inventory and resupply of all deployable ambulances in accordance with MedStar Policies and Procedures. Perform quality control inspections on durable medical equipment utilized for patient care
Dispense controlled substances according to established policies and procedures
Operating company vehicles in accordance with all state and local laws on city streets, local highways and all MedStar properties
Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job
Regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours
On-call and overtime work required in emergencies and at other times as directed or assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Knowledge of product used in patient care area
Know and practice proper decontamination processes for all equipment
Provide exceptional customer service addressing concerns as they arise

Complete other projects and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Logistics Supervisor, Support Services Manager and/or the Chief Operations Officer
Ensure confidentiality of medical and all other discretionary information
JOB DUTIES:
Handling and properly disposing and/or packing of biohazard materials
Ensure the MedStar facilities are maintained in a safe and secure manner
Identify unsafe conditions, neutralize and inform supervisor of situation and action taken
Assisting in Emergency Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI)
Control and document the issuing of company assets and report any discrepancies to shift supervisor
Adheres to all policies, procedures and directives of agencies, institutional and regulatory bodies
Accurately maintain logs and records for controlled substances and other required documentation
Accurately handle narcotics in accordance with all MedStar Policies and Procedures
Maintains high standards for health, safety, welfare and ethical behavior
Uses the company Mission, Vision and Value statements to guide daily decisions and actions
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposed to various extreme temperatures and weather elements
Warehouse/garage environment
May be exposed to excessive noise at times
May be exposed to biohazards material and bodily fluids
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasionally: lifting up to 80 lbs., smelling, pushing, pulling, typing, climbing, balancing, carrying no more than 70 pounds, kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, upper and lower body flexibility, running distance, driving ambulance, car or truck, multiple physical activities performed at the same time (driving, talking and seeing).
Frequently: hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, walking inside and outside, sitting.
Constantly: seeing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent
High attention to detail and organization/structure
Must be able to drive an ambulance and have a driving record in compliance with MedStar policy regarding insurability
Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Familiarity with computers and Microsoft office software
Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain a high level of accuracy
Be able to maintain a positive attitude under a variety of conditions, and relate appropriately to a variety of individuals
Ability to lift up to 80lbs. without assistance
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
Must not have been excluded by the OIG to Participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs
Preferred Requirements:
Possess and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
EMT, Hospital Supply and/or Pharmacy Tech experience
