We are seeking a Director of Data Engineeringto join our Enterprise Price and Promotion team. The Enterprise Price and Promotion team enables grocery pricing through data science driven solutions. The team is expanding and implementing new solutions combining the latest in optimization data science and Generative AI to deliver cutting-edge results.
You will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing solutions dedicated to optimizing grocery pricing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams of Data Scientists, Research Scientists, Software Engineers, and Product Leads to understand business requirements, identify and plan solutions focused on implementing the latest in pricing science. The successful candidate will be a strategic, forward-thinking technology leader with a relentless focus on delivering a quality solution. They will be a fearless leader, asking the right questions to ensure engineering best practices are being utilized.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a team of developers in the development and implementation of quality engineering products
Support mentoring and growth of team through biweekly 1-1s (or more frequent as needed); lead the Performance Management Cycle, (including mid-year, year-end, and as necessarily throughout check-ins); Coaching and Development Discussions; Career Pathing
Escalate concerns to leadership, as needed, and remove roadblocks for the team
Assess, monitor, and promote individual and team skill development programs and practices; identifying skill gaps for future talent needs
Data Management practices including Data Modeling, ETL practices, Aggregation patterns, and Data warehousing principles.
Execute the vision, goals, priorities and work alongside the team to accomplish them. Ensure high-quality technical solutions and skill development.
Drives continuous improvement to deliver solutions that are at the forefront of industry leading techniques while also adhering to analytical best practices
Build relationships with key partners within the Kroger Technology organization to share best practices, help accelerate the growth of both organizations, and deliver joint initiatives as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or another heavily technical program
5-10 years’ experience in a technical role leading/mentoring by example
Be a change agent and foster a learn by doing environment
Proven ability to execute in a customer focused environment and advocate for customers across a cross-functional organization.
Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking and planning, and creative problem-solving skills. Strong analytical mind.
Comfortable with thinking outside the box and challenging the status quo, respectfully and courageously, to deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Knowledgeable and experienced in the following tech skills: Agile Experience, Python, Scala, Hadoop, Microsoft Azure, Generative AI, Git
High level of independence; ability to make time-sensitive decisions rapidly and solve urgent problems without escalation.
Strong time and project management skills; the ability to balance multiple, simultaneous work items and prioritize as necessary.
Important:
This is a Hybrid position. Candidates must be able to come into the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of each week. We have locations in Cincinnati, OH, Chicago, IL, Deerfield, IL, New York, NY, and Portland, OR.
There are no remote options for this position.
