Meet our Team
The Venmo Data Platforms team supports Venmo’s internal and customer-facing production data store engineering and operations. Venmo Data Platforms team is actively engaged in database engineering partnering with development groups, platform and infrastructure teams, providing deep subject matter expertise to feature design as well as an advocate for analyzing and resolving customer and performance issues at scale.
Your day-to-day
Design, implement, and operate data platform initiatives to provide a secure, scalable, reliable and performant data platform to Venmo product and infrastructure teams
Automate provisioning, management, and monitoring solutions for the supported data platforms
Ensure systems are running at the highest possible performance level by analyzing and tuning queries
Implement solutions to measure and remediate bottlenecks in the data platforms
Lead initiatives with limited guidance from management or senior teammates
Collaborate with teammates on planning and execution of initiatives
Demonstrable ability to learn new technologies and process practices.
What do you need to bring
Bachelors and/or master's in computer science or related field of study
At least 10 years' experience in software development or a related field
5+ years' experience operating on-prem/cloud databases and/or distributed systems 24x7x365
Experience with query profiling, reviewing optimizer dump, data modeling and relational schema design
Significant hands-on experience with designing and implementing infrastructure to support global-scale services
Hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider):
Infrastructure as code (AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
Hands-on programming and scripting (Lambda, API GW, Python, Java, Bash)
Hands-on experience with database operations including, but not limited to AWS DynamoDB, AWS DocumentDB, Cassandra, MySQL, AWS Aurora, Redis, ElasticSearch
Experience leading software projects
AWS Solutions Architect is a plus
