Position: Lab Manager, Microbiology
Location: Boston, MA
Must-Haves:
Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or an applied Science.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a Microbiology Lab.
Nice-to-Haves:
Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) in Microbiology.
Essential Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Manages and leads a sub-specialty section of the Laboratory.
Assumes full responsibility for all laboratory staff in their section and their actions.
Champions a laboratory environment that promotes quality and compliance for all laboratory-related tests and services.
Provides 24/7 call coverage.
Contributes to and supports department Strategic Planning.
Ensures maintenance of equipment, evaluates new equipment, and promotes new programs and problem-solving.
Fiscal Responsibility:
Takes full fiscal responsibility for the section, including preparing and managing budgets, analyzing billing codes, and supporting revenue integrity.
Monitors and controls overtime to achieve client ’s goal of Updates all equipment maintenance and service agreements in collaboration with the Supply Chain department.
Quality, Compliance, and Safety:
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies (CLIA, TJC, OSHA, DPH, HCFA, FDA, AABB, NCCLS).
Participates in hospital-wide Quality Assurance Programs and prepares reports for Quality Improvement Program (QuIP) reviews.
Maintains updated Policy and Procedure Manuals and ensures compliance with safety procedures.
Technical Expertise:
Provides guidance and resolution for technical problems.
Plans, evaluates, and implements new methodologies and technologies.
Ensures proper maintenance and functionality of equipment and instrumentation.
Human Resources:
Oversees the interview process and candidate selection.
Manages orientation and competency testing for all testing personnel.
Embraces the client Performance Management Process and supports employee engagement.
Coordinates cross-training programs and ensures optimal staff utilization.
Communication:
Communicates with staff through regular meetings.
Works with the Administrative Director, Medical Chief, Medical Directors, and other managers to achieve common goals.
Prepares and implements customer service programs and values customer feedback.
