Fairfax, CA, United States

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (cehd.gmu.edu) invites applications for a full-time tenure-line faculty position focused primarily on research and teaching in the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) program and the Learning Technologies Design Research (LTDR) doctoral specialization within the Division of Learning Technologies.

George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Program:

The LDT program (https://education.gmu.edu/learning-design-technology/) consists of a fully accredited Master of Science degree and a stand-alone eLearning Graduate Certificate, both offered fully online. The LDT program curriculum subscribes to the competencies set forth by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTPI) as well as advanced and managerial competencies that prepare graduates to move into senior roles in learning design, instructional design, UX design, learning analytics, online learning design and administration, e-Learning development, corporate training, and project management. Learning design is a rapidly growing industry that applies to all sectors of business, higher education, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Responsibilities:

This is a nine-month tenure-line faculty position with a base 2-2 teaching load and opportunities for summer teaching and mentoring of doctoral students. Responsibilities also include engaging in scholarly research and seeking external funding in areas such as the learning sciences, learning analytics, workplace learning and performance improvement, learning ecosystems, human systems integration, ubiquitous systems, educational design research, human-centered design, pluriversal design, immersive technologies, smart technologies, blockchain technology, micro-learning, micro-credentialing, and continuous or lifelong learning. In addition to research and teaching, all faculty affiliated with the Division of Learning Technologies have service responsibilities related to the coordination of the program, student advising at the master’s and doctoral levels, and online course development and revision. Teaching loads are carefully adjusted to reflect participation in externally funded activities or taking on administrative assignments that go beyond normal service responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

Experience in teaching online and/or hybrid graduate courses in learning design and technology to include instructional design, learning design, user experience design, learning analytics, xAPI, educational design research, human-computer interaction (HCI) design, the business of learning technologies, and/or project management;

An established or emerging record of scholarly publications and presentations and evidence of securing (or significant interest in pursuing) external funding;

Active participation in university and/or professional service opportunities and interest in serving in leadership roles in these settings; and

A genuine understanding of and commitment to the teaching context and the importance of providing graduate students with the highest quality educational experience.
