Real Estate Attorney (GENERAL COUNSEL)

, CA, United States

I'm the recruiter on this job and I'm writing this, not some ChatBot from an Elon Musk fever dream!

It's me, hi, I'm the recruiter, it's me. (Yes, I've cross posted this under a different job title and LI will probably be unhappy with this approach but I want to make sure *you* - the person who ultimately is hired because you're perfect - see this. Please, read and let me know. You know who you are: You know how to do low income housing inside and out, you're smart and driven, and want to be the only lawyer around.)

My client is a development firm specializing in the acquisition, repositioning, preservation, and creation of affordable housing and they need a General Counsel. Is it you? I really hope so... First, let's look at the responsibilities, as that's what they need (and what I need to see on a resume).

Responsibilities:

Manage outside counsel communications for transaction or litigation matters.

Draft, revise, and review documents including leases, lease amendments, construction agreements, service vendor contracts, property management agreements, license agreements, broker/listing agreements, letter agreements, and other relevant documents.

Draft and maintain corporate documents including operating agreements, resolutions, and memos.

Manage all matters related to insurance coverage for Corporate, the General Partners, and the Venture LPs; property, liability, corporate governance, etc.

Maintain the primary relationship between our broker, claims adjustors, defense counsel, and any other relevant parties.

Represent company in negotiations during due diligence period, including but not limited to seller agents, lenders, and equity partners.

Perform research relevant to company real estate inquires or issues and prepare finding summaries for internal use.

Represent company in business negotiations, in partnership with the leadership team.

Maintain sound legal knowledge of current regulations, policies, and best practices in the LIHTC space.

I just listed all of the responsibilities, and those are super important, don't get me wrong, but I want to let you know a bit about the company and team. They believe that, "...a secure home and supportive community are integral to achieving empowerment." It is their mission to develop exceptional and affordable housing across the nation, with their portfolio consisting of properties located throughout California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, and the Washington, D.C. metro area.

In the work place, they prioritize creating a fair, diverse, and inclusive environment. They do everything in their power to create a workplace culture where you feel valued, trusted, and empowered to show up as your authentic self and perform at your highest potential; you will experience a strong sense of community and engage in purpose-driven work every day.

Qualifications and Further Details:

A member in good standing of the California bar.

Minimum of five years practicing law.

Minimum of 3 years' experience in the LIHTC project space required ; experience is ideally with document review and agreement amendments in LIHTC.

Demonstrated experience handling complex matter issues.

Demonstrated experience in analyzing and interpreting statues, regulations, and other relevant administrative guidance.

Location: El Segundo area of Los Angeles. Team members are present in the office on Mon/Tues/Wed/Friday, with Thurs as corporate wide WFH days.

Compensation: $250,000 - $275,000

You can apply on our website, via LinkedIn, or you can email me your resume directly at [email protected] (I can't promise you'll get the job, but I can promise I'll see your resume.)
