The University of California Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego (UCVMC-SD) is a unit that provides outreach & clinical services for the teaching programs within the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Under supervision of the COO, act as the first point of contact for our clients, companion animals & guests. Greet, check in, schedule appointments, fax reports, assist with insurance forms & research client queries. Input all client conversations/communication into patient records. Collect payments. Schedule appointment follow up and perform daily appointment reminders. Arrange mailing of documents/medical specimens. Place office supply orders & maintain inventory. Provide general support for administration, clinicians and technicians.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
Sit for extended periods of time.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
This position is located in San Diego, CA at the University of California Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego (UCVMC-SD).
Schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:30pm
Must be able to work 40 hours a week. Clinic is open 5-days/week (Monday-Friday). Applicants should be able to work any of those days.
May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
Rabies vaccinations/blood titers may be required.
Work in other related areas on an as needed basis.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Required** :
Interpersonal communication and customer services skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and emotional states to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, make referrals, and interact with the general public. Skills to maintain a pleasant and helpful demeanor in a hectic, demanding environment.
Experience working in a medical or animal environment. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Problem solving skills to quickly and accurately assess and recognize emergency situations, difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals and take the appropriate action. Experience organizing and prioritizing work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects, distribute effort appropriate among the projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity.
Skills to work with and maintain confidentiality of information and materials.
Reception and clerical support experience.
**Preferred:**
Experience working in a veterinary clinic.
Experience in cashiering and billing or ability to quickly learn. Familiarity with VMACS electronic medical record system.
Ability to quickly and effectively respond to referring veterinarians and clients who request information and/or provide key information. Ability to follow through with inputting notes in patient records and providing accurate, thorough information to doctors/technicians.
Ability to follow directions and willingness to assist with any tasks requested in a team effort.
