Department Overview

The OHSU Intercultural Psychiatric Program provides expert, culturally sensitive mental health services to immigrant and refugee communities. We offer individual and group therapy as well as psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and case management in collaboration with primary care providers, and various community services. Many of our staff are immigrants or former refugees themselves so they have a profound understanding of the struggles that this community faces. Our team of counselors who speak many different languages work alongside psychiatrists to provide interpretation, cultural insight, and basic skills training. The Torture Treatment Center of Oregon (TTCO) is a program within IPP that meets the unique needs of survivors of torture.

The primary duties of this position is to provide psychiatric care to patients in the Intercultural Psychiatric Program (IPP). The program provides culturally sensitive mental health services to immigrant and refugee communities. The IPP Psychiatrist typically works in partnership with a Bicultural Counselor (QMHA, QMHP), a Social Worker, a Case Coordinator and a Clinic Director as a team providing psychiatric services, care continuity and case coordination during visits. The bicultural counselor works alongside the psychiatrist to provide face-to-face native language translational support and cultural insight for the diverse population served.

Function/Duties of Position

Provide patient care and services in an outpatient ambulatory mental health setting. Work with culturally specific counselors to meet patient needs.

This position will perform other duties as assigned by IPP Medical Director.

Required Qualifications

* IPP receives Medicaid funding and all employees must successfully pass a State of Oregon DHS background and criminal records check (CRIMS) and adhere to the State of Oregon Health Authority, Health System Division: Mental Health Services Oregon Administrative Rules: https://secure.sos.state.or.us/oard/displayDivisionRules.action?selectedDivision=1626

* All applicants must be board certified or board eligible (with certification planned/in process) in psychiatry. Academic rank begins at the level of Assistant Professor and may be higher depending on credentialing.
