The Lab Research Technician conducts research aimed at understanding the evolution of B and T cell receptors and infections in bats. This position conducts laboratory work including extraction of nucleic acids, preparation of amplified libraries and genomic libraries, under appropriate biosafety conditions, and contribution to the daily operations of the laboratory and mentor students. This position contributes to data analysis and organization. This position may also aid in field operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Extraordinary attention to detail in organization

• Ability to manipulate small, irreplaceable samples with minimal loss and no cross contamination.

• Ability to keep meticulous records.

• Willingness and ability to train others.

SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES :

Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES :

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.

Required Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree with 1 year of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge or interest in learning genomic techniques, bats and/or immunology.

This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
