Role Overview

The Associate Director will be a strategic partner to the Executive Director in leading the comprehensive vision of Hillel at Stanford. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Associate Director will focus on shaping the strategic overview and vision, encompassing student programming and engagement strategy, stewardship of the Board of Directors, cultivation of University and community partnerships, Hillel's involvement in Stanford's "Big 5" weekends, and management of student-facing communication. The Associate Director directly supervises 5-6 professionals, and their role extends to spearheading the programming, student engagement, and communications departments on a larger scale. The Associate Director will provide support to the entire Hillel staff alongside the Executiveƒ Director to ensure the organization's overarching goals are met.

What You’ll Do

Program Management

Work closely with the Executive Director regarding strategic planning and organizational management to develop, articulate, and implement a dynamic and innovative organizational mission and vision for Hillel – for undergraduate and graduate student life.

Lead Hillel’s Program Staff Team (PST) with implementing staff-student mentoring, student programming, and leadership development, to ensure that these offerings are high-quality experiences.

Oversee the vision and implementation of student leadership, 1x1s, cohorts, and immersive trip experiences.

Lead collection and analysis of student engagement data and measuring excellence processes. Train other staff in use of student engagement databases.

(Depending on timing of AD hire), hire and supervise Campus Rabbi to support dynamic, pluralistic religious life, Jewish education initiatives, and strategy

Manage internal processes for student leaders and interns, including hiring, funding, supervising, and planning

Manage programming budget, planning, and tracking for all student programming.

AD role may include teaching Jewish texts, leading services and/or holiday celebrations, and some public speaking, depending on talents and interests of candidate.

Communications

Directly responsible for managing and executing all marketing, public relations and promotional activities focused on students and campus constituents

Oversees Hillel at Stanford’s website, social media channels, mass email, graphic design efforts, and any other communication outlets

In partnership with the Executive Director, manages all external communications and media relations with journalists or publications

Build and maintain strong relationships, including clear and regular communication, with students, university partners, parents and alumni

Manages all aspects of specific constituent groups: Parent Council, Alumni Council, Faculty Council

Excels: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership development skills, holds others accountable to high standards, capable of working independently and prioritizing to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

What You’ll Bring

7-10 years of professional work experience in a related field

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

Experience planning and execution of projects and programs

Experience with fiscal budgeting and building operations

Experience supervising employees and knowing when to coach, when to inspire, and when to lead the team

Experience leading communications strategy, excellent communication skills, and comfort with multiple platforms/ability to learn new systems quickly

Experience as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization is a plus

An understanding of the dynamism of Jewish life and how that affects current and future generations of university students

What You’ll Receive

Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $120,000-$130,000
